I don't remember having to change anything when making this doughnut. It was very delicious. I cut out bunny ones for our Easter breakfast. Made glazed and cinn/sugar ones. Mmmm.. can't wait to make again.

I am giving this recipe 4 stars = 3 for the dough and 5 for the glaze. The glaze is right on the money. The dough however needs tweaking. It takes more than 5 cups flour and does need more salt and sugar in my opinion and it is alot denser. I did not get a light and airy doughnut. I will make again and try bread flour let it rise longer on second rise. Maybe my impatience got the better of me. Overall, worth trying and worth the effort. KK in our area closed and we can't stand Dunk D so if we have donuts I will try these again!

We loved this recipe! The doughnuts had a chewier texture than the "well known" crispy cream doughnuts, but the glaze was dead on in taste. I used a glass to cut the doughnut shape and then the one end of a turkey baster to cut the inside hole and they were the perfect sizes (if you don't have a doughnut cutter on hand). Thanks for the great recipe!

OMG... So GOOD! After reading many of the reviews, I had very high hopes that these would taste just like the ones at my local bakery... they were BETTER! My 10 yr old son said I should become a doughnut maker :) I followed the recipe exact and they were light and fluffy doughnuts with a tasty sweet glaze on the outside. We ate some when they were warm and they melted in your mouth. The only tip I would give is after you make your doughnut shape, place them on wax paper or parchment paper that's been dusted with flour... that way after they're done rising they'll just slide off the paper into the oil and they won't deflate! I'm definately going to keep this recipe in my file... but I'll have to be careful how often I make them! The recipe says it makes 18, but I used a 3 1/2 inch circle cutter and I got about 28... A day later, my family has eaten ALL of them:) Enjoy!

I had a difficult time with the glaze. Do not make it until you are ready to use it. I kept having to reheat it and it got hard fast. After reheating it about 5 times it got really grainy. Who would've thought the dough would be easier to work with than the glaze? I didn't have a doughnut cutter (couldn't even find one in the stores) so I used my heart-shaped cookie cutters.

If I could give this 10 stars, I would. To die for good! I doubled the glaze. Next time, I am only going to cut out doughnut holes...much easier to handle in the skillet. Excellent recipe! Thank you!

These doughnuts came out pretty well for my first time making them. I made the dough in my bread machine, but had to add almost an additional cup of flour (I used cake flour) to get it to stop sticking to the sides. After I rolled out the dough and cut them out (I was hoping to make them custard-filled, so I just made them round with no holes), I let them rise again in a warm oven (which worked very well). They fried up very quickly in my Fry Daddy (I was actually worried that they wouldn't be done in the middle, but they came out fine when they were golden brown outside). I added a bit of lemon juice to the glaze, which was yummy. I had trouble getting the custard (I used the Pastry Cream recipe from this site) into the donuts, but I think that just takes practice. I also made a few star-shaped donuts for my little kids and they're inhaling them as I write this. If I make these again (I don't often get donut cravings, but I am pregnant at the moment...), I'll probably make regular donut shapes or donut holes as the larger rounds came out a bit dense and cakey in the middle. I only made a half recipe, but it made about 17 donuts (about 2/3 rounds and 2/3 stars). I really liked the lemon glaze.

These were just ok. Certainly not a KK. They were good warm and looked pretty. The dough was bland, sort of tasted like fry bread, and definitely not sweet. The frosting helped but it wasn't our favorite frosting recipe either.

I made this by using my bread machine and cutting the recipe in half. I used only 1 tblsp of hot water instead of 2 and put ingredients in according to my bread maker. The dough was beautiful....the taste incredible, it melted in your mouth. It made 16 donuts with a dozen or so donut holes. I can't imagine anyone giving this recipe less than 5 Stars.
