Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange peel
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup chopped almonds

Directions

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugars. Beat in egg, orange juice, peel and extract. Combine flour and baking soda; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Stir in almonds. Roll into 1-in. balls. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 375 degrees F for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool.
