Yummy! Rich, buttery, quite sweet but a hit with everyone who tried them. I had to add a teeny bit of milk to the frosting to make it spreadable, but other than that, I think the recipe is great as it is.

I have been making these bars for years. This bar recipe is where I began to love date cookies! The filling is rich and buttery and nutty and crisp all at the same time. It is well complemented by the cookie base and frosting and just adds to their richness. Perfect for the Christmas cookie tray or anytime, really. I have even made only the filling and spread that into a buttered, foil lined pan, cut and rolled them in powdered sugar to eat like a candy treat. Do line the pan with buttered foil first. Leave a couple of inches on two sides of the pan to use as handles to lift the finished bars out of the pan before cutting them. Makes it much easier to cut into nice, neat bars.
