It was delicious! I didn't use the bacon grease to cook the onion and celery but everything else I did exactly as mentioned! It was wonderful! My 77 yr old picky grandmother and super picky young kids all scraped their bowl and had seconds!!!! Totally a keeper!!!!

Love this recipe! My kids love this and so does the husband. The only thing I changed is I did not drain the vegi's after sauteing. I like the added flavor and I did not puree the soup. I like chunky, so I just boiled, cooled, added the whipping cream etc. very good soup!!!

This is a great. Recipe! As with other readers I also made a few changes. I used a ham bone with celery, carrots, onion and bay leaf - the water part. Discarded the veggies and kept the bone in for the remainder of the process. Also...once I purred the end product, I omitted the cream.....it was creamy enough. This recipe is a keeper!

This was so delish!! The only change I made was, instead of putting potatoes in the dish, I bought the Bob Evans microwave ones and added it too the dish. It thickened it up & used a huge Ham Hock and 2 bags of Split Peas & only used 1/2 cup of whipping cream.

Excellent recipe. I left out the celery and potoatos but added a ham bone. Next time I will skip the cream.

Really really delicious with the modifications I made. I added 3 cloves of garlic. Most importantly, I used only 3 slices of bacon, half a cup of ham, and half and half. It was still so rich and decadent, but at least slightly less high in cholesterol. When a meal can still be rich and flavorful with a few, health-minded changes, I always support doing that. Try it this way, and if you really think it needs more richness, go for more bacon and full cream. Served with toasted fresh bread and a salad. Yum!!! Thanks for the recipe.

Amazing recipe! Everyone I made it for fell in love. It is now in our family meal rotation. The only change I made was reserving some of the ham for after the blending is done so that there are some ham chunks in the soup. One of the best soups I've ever had.

My husband loves this recipe. The only changes I made were: I reduced the amount of water by replacing it with 1 can of Chicken Broth. I also added 1/4 tsp. each of dried rosemary and tarragon.
