I made this exactly as instructed, and I found it was just a little sweet for me. Next time I will ease up on the sugar a bit, and make it a little creamier. My 2 1/2 year old daughter, however, had no complaints!

Giving it 5 stars even though I wasn't precise with the recipe. I'm sure as written, it deserves 6 stars! We didn't have any 1/2 & 1/2 and I was out of my usual substitutes as well (evap milk, heavy cream). So I completely skipped that part. I also reduced the sugar to 1/2 cup because of previous reviews and personally I thought the extra sugar would have been fine. Cocoa is supposed to be sweet, folks! :) Next time I'll follow the recipe precisely. The 1/2 & 1/2 is already on the shopping list...

This is really easy and really yummy. For the baking cocoa I used half dutch processed and half black cocoa (super dark chocolate)so it was very dark and very rich. We skipped the half and half and opted for homemade cinnamon whipped cream on top. All 4 of my children enjoyed warmning up with this after playing out in the snow. Will make this again on a cold winter day!

Good but too sweet even though I decreased the sugar to 1/2C. Next time I will use even less sugar.

So incredibly good! I added some whipped cream to the top but that made it too rich (if there is such a thing!).

Oops! Forgot the vanilla, but it was still AWESOME! I only put in about half of the sugar, too. Next time, I'll make a double batch...yum!

This was a wonderful winter treat! Like other reviewers, I added only 1/2 c. of sugar and it was perfect. It was still hot after adding the cream, so I topped it with a generous dollop of peppermint ice cream. Sinfully delicious!!!

This is excellent, but I didn't use the cream at the end. Also, maybe it's just me, but Nestle cocoa seems to taste better than Hershey's.

Wow, awesome, doubled it, we have 5 kids, but only put in about 1 cup + 2 tablespoons of sugar, and that was sweet enough. a nice touch to this was some homemade marshmallows to top it off.

My wife always buy the packette from walmart, and I tried to make this and my wife and my daughter and we all loved it so much and I have been asked to make this everynight for the past 4 nights now. I just put a little over 1/4 cup sugar.

Like others, I only used 1/2 cup of sugar. Topped with mini marshmallows, whipped cream, and drizzled with Hershey's dark syrup. The result was several excellent cups of hot cocoa. Thanks!

I second the previous reviews. Cut the sugar by a half at least! You can always add more later. This worked great with Hershey's Special Dark cocoa powder. I also whipped heavy cream, with vanilla and a bit of sugar, to top the cocoa with, instead of blending half-and-half right in. 'Course both would be good too... :)
