Creamy California Guacamole

"This reinterpretation of an old favorite marries cream cheese and nonfat yogurt with avocados and green chile salsa for creamy texture and zesty flavor. Serve with tortilla chips or crostini (small slices of toasted bread)."

INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)

  • 1 (8 ounce) package California cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups California nonfat plain yogurt, drained*
  • 4 medium ripe avocados, peeled, seeded and mashed
  • 1 cup salsa verde (green chile salsa)
  • 2 teaspoons lemon or lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a food processor or a medium mixing bowl using an electric mixer, mix cream cheese and yogurt until smooth.
  2. Add mashed avocados, salsa and 2 teaspoons lemon or lime juice to cream cheese mixture and combine well.
  3. Add salt and additional lemon or lime juice to taste.

FOOTNOTE

  • *To drain yogurt, line a strainer with a paper coffee filter or cheesecloth and place over a bowl. Place yogurt in strainer and let stand at least 1 hour.
