Creamy Broccoli Cabbage
SUBMITTED BY:
Lee Silvey
"'My kids hated cabbage,' recalls Lee Silvey of Snohomish, Washington. 'But when times were hard, I wanted to make the most of this economical vegetable, so I invented this creamy combination,' she explains. 'They gobbled it up. Now it's a must at our holiday dinners.'"

Good and easy. I steamed my cabbage and broccoli, but other than that I made it just as the recipe states. My kids weren't very fond of it. They love broccoli, but not served in that way. My husband and I enjoyed it.

I'd give this 4 and half stars if I could. I used light cream cheese to cut down on the fat and calories a little, but otherwise made no changes. Cabbage is actually a sweet vegetables as long as it's not overcooked, so I made sure to steam until cooked but still a little crunchy. Even the teenagers liked this!

This was a really good recipe, but like the person who wrote the previous review, I thought that it could use some added oomph. I used the melted margarine called for and a little less butter as base for a white sauce to which I added about 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, 1 tspn paprika, and salt, pepper, and sugar to taste. So good, made ya wanna lay down and scream!

Very tasty recipe overall, quite sweet. I didn't measure my vegetable portions exactly and I added some cauliflower, but otherwise, I followed the recipe as is. I'd probably give this a 4.5 if I could as it's very yummy but could maybe use some further adjustments and additions to balance it and add a little more kick. If I make it again I'll probably play around more.
