I made these last night as a side dish for grilled marinated chicken and fresh green beans. My family and I enjoyed it but I think I had a problem with the oven temperature. I used a 2 quart 8x8 glass pyrex dish sprayed with cooking spray and my potatoes burned on the bottom. It did not affect the taste of the dish, but there was a thin black crust on the bottom and around the edges. The potatoes were creamy and tender and the sauce was easy to make. The only change I made was that I sprinkled thyme along with the salt and pepper on both layers of the potatoes. I will make this again adjusting oven temp to 350 degrees.

These were very good, made them for Easter dinner and everyone loved them! Just be careful your casserole dish is big enough...I cut it too close and wow what a mess in the oven! Duh! Will make these again and again (in a bigger dish!). Thanks for the recipe!!

This side dish was very tasy! I did not use the onions though, as I thought they might overpower the dish.

These were only OK. Kind of bland. I did add some extra seasoning but maybe not enough. Nothing wrong with these potatoes... just nothing great about them either.

Loved it! I was going to make this with burgers but it rained so I browned/seasoned the burger and added it to this and it was like hamburger helper only DELICIOUS!

I made this for company and the dish was scraped clean. I followed the recipe to a "T" and it's great as is. My favorite part? No soup needed in this easy to make, no frill but absoluty yummy, Au Gratin Potato recipe! Try it!

I gave this 4 stars because it was super easy and quick to put together. However, I would recommend a larger crock. 1 quart was way too small. The only thing about this recipe is it is a little bland. It's really all creamy cheese. I'm trying to think of a good additive to give it more punch.

It was a little too bland for me, but my family loved it. I think I'll try adding more than one kind of cheese next time.

My family and I liked this dish so much I made it twice in one weekend. It's very easy to keep the sauce smooth and creamy by adding the milk slowly (as should be done for all creamy sauces), and if it gets to thin I just add a touch more flour.

My family loves these. They are very mellow in flavor. Sometimes I add fresh garlic. The leftovers are great with diced ham.

These are really good Au Gratin potatoes. I made them for the first time a few months ago following the recipe exactly. I made one change thought tonight- I made them on the stove-top. I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but it turned out great! All I did was, in a large pan saute the onion with some minced garlic, add the thinly sliced potatoes and fry them for a few minutes at medium heat. In a small bowl I melted the butter in the microwave and then added the flour. I stirred that into the pan and slowly added the milk. Once it was all heated I added the cheese, stirred it and let simmer for about 20 minutes. I scaled the recipe down to half because it's only my husband and I. It was just a quick way to do the potatoes.

These were good. Definitely worth making as opposed to using those dried/packaged au gratin potatoes. But something was missing for me. I think I'll try to add some sour cream or chives (or both!) in and see if I get that "wow" factor the next time.

Not a bad recipe, excellent base. I felt they were a little blah, I needed to add more salt and fresh cracked pepper to them to give them flavor. I would make these again.
