This dish was delicious, but I felt like it needed a little more flavor. I used a low-sodium chicken broth (my friend made this and said it came out too salty with regular chicken broth) and I added 1 tbsp of cinnamon (instead of 1/4 tsp) and 1/2 tsp of ground ginger (instead of 1/8 tsp). It gave it a more savory flavor. The cinnamon croutons were a perfect touch as well. I wasn't going to make them, but was so glad I did!

Fantastic! I only had 1/2 a can of pumpkin so I added one sweet potato and one carrot. Added extra cinnamon and ginger but will half the salt next time. Also added a little bit of nutmeg and maybe 2-3 Tablespoons brown sugar. This one's definitely a keeper - excellent for fall!

Everyone loved this soup! I used half-and-half instead of heavy cream and added a few more dashes of ground ginger and cinnamon. I didn't make the croutons, so we topped the soup with saltine crackers instead. YUM!

SOOO good! Took it to a potluck and got rave reviews. I made the croutons but didn't feel they accented the soup because the soup was way more savory than sweet. I would add ALOT more cinnamon and a bit of nutmeg if I was using the croutons. Even without the croutons it was the best!!

My family loved this soup. We first tried it without the cream and then added it at the end. Both ways tasted so different, but delish. I used vegetable broth for a vegetarian alternative. I would recommend this recipe. So would my kids. They licked their bowls clean.

Yum. I reduced the chicken broth a tad, sauteed the onion until it was sweetly mellow and used the cream generously to thicken at the end. The croutons were inspired. Thank you!

This soup was awful. I cut the onion amount in half and cut out about a 1/4 of the chicken broth, and it still had a very strong onion taste. I ended up adding a cup of sugar and some marshmallow cream just to salvage it, along with extra cinnamon. I would ommitt the onion all together and cut out about half the broth if I were to make it again.

I had been looking for a recipe like this for a while and my family loved it! I did follow a few of the changes that some of the reviewers made: doubling the spices (I almost always do that in baking) and adding the brown sugar. I found some pumpkin cranberry wheat ciabatta bread to go with it too!

Yummy, yummy, yummy! I only used 1/2 cup of onion and subbed half-and half for the heavy cream(didn't have it), and it came out wonderfully. Even my ten month old baby loves it! This is a welcome addition to my recipe book. Thanks Thomas!

My roommates and I made this for a dinner party we had with our friends. At first we were wary, none of us had ever tried pumpkin soup before. Everyone at our party loved this soup. The croutons were especially a hit, everyone asked for more. I highly recommend this recipe.

The soup is quite good, but it has a very strong, almost overpowering onion flavor. I added extra spices to help mask/balance out the onion. Next time I may try using the half the onion and substituting yams, potatoes, or even some fresh squash. I also used evaporated milk in place of the cream to cut down (a bit) on the calorie/fat content.
