My family loves this recipe. I've altered it a little, not as much brown sugar and added some cooked, crumbled bacon. I make my broccoli/cheese cornbread with it. It's a favorite meal with my family.

This was the first recipe from this site that I didnt really like. I was looking for something with the consistancy of baked beans but this recipe came out more like chili con carne. I took these on a 5 day campout with a total of 7 people and there was still probably half the pot left over at the end of the trip. Not bad but not a big hit since there were other items there that were gobbled up the first day

1 cup of brown sugar! Yikes. I knew that would be way way way way too sweet for me. Everything else looked so good, so I made this anyway, but instead of that sugar used about 1/8 cup of honey. Only had 1 lb of ground beef, and added 6 pieces of cooked, chopped turkey bacon. My dried mustard was dead, so I threw it in the garbage and used a few tablespoons of grainy dijon. Also added a goodly handful of hot pepper flakes. Used a can of black beans instead of the wax, but I think almost any bean mix would work with this. The key, I think, is in the chili beans and the soup as a base plus the mustard and a tinge of sweetness and the smokey bacon that I added. Works so well!!! Made it in the slow cooker according to the instructions(6 hours on low). My tweaked recipe results I'd give a 5 star. I love love love love this. Had a snow storm this morning and this was a perfect dinner for this kind of a day.

We loved these as a meal with buiscuits. Also would be great as a side dish. I cut the sugar also.

I used 1/2 c sugar and 2 cans kidney beans, thats what I had on hand. Great flavor. Freezes and reheats well. Will make again.

These were good but a little too sweet for us. I added some chili seasoning to cut back on it and it helped. If I make again I will use less brown sugar.

I made a big crock pot of these beans for the Football National Championship game and they are AWESOME! My fiance ate the leftovers for three days after that and also gave some to his mother. She loved them too! WHEW! lol

I made these last night for a fall outdoor potluck. They are very good though I think they are a little too sweet. I thought a cup of brown sugar sounded like a lot but I figured I'd follow the recipe the first time I made it. Next time I'll probably start with a half cup and add to taste. I did get a lot of positive comments about the dish. Someone said it was good "comfort" food. One change I did make was to substitute black beans for the wax. I think any type of beans would work fine in this recipe.

Don't know why more people haven't tried and rated these beans. I looooove them. I actually made them about three years ago and now are the only beans I make for barbeque, picnics and get togethers. I sometimes add another can of the butter beans because I simply love their tender sweet taste. (You may want to stay away from the men about an hour or so after eating them...hee, hee.)

Really tasty! My family has a new love for beans. I served this as a side dish but it could be a main. I will cut back the sugar by a 1/4 cup or more though and by all means leave out the beans you don't like and add some other that you do like. I left out lima and added black beans.

I'm not a "baked bean" person, but my mom asked me to make some "beans with meat" for a family dinner and I came across these. I love these beans. They are fantastic! They are also super easy.

This is an awesome recipe. However, I did change this a tad bit. I added a large can of tomato soup and some extra chili beans and made it into chili. I did use Splenda Brown sugar instead and reduced it to 1/4 cup. It is a hit in our house! Filling, too.
