I make this bread every Sunday. 1 loaf for my family & 1 for my parents! It's great!

This is the same recipe as one I've been using for years from the Star of Texas cookbook, and it does make a wonderful loaf of bread that is good for sandwiches and toast. I had to add a full cup more flour. I made into cinnamon swirl bread, and it is delicious.

I had excellent success with this recipe. Will use 1/2 the sugar next time as I found it a bit sweet. Also used an eggwash with toasted sesame seeds on top just before putting in oven. (Toast sesame seeds in pan beforehand to ensure nutty flavour.) My family loved it.

I've never been very good at baking bread, so I was looking for something "idiot-proof", when I happened to run across this recipe. (I absolutely had to try it when I discovered that the person who posted it is from my dad's tiny hometown!) The bread turned out perfectly (to my husband's surprise), and tasted awfully close to the bread my Grandma used to make! I'll definitely use the recipe again!

This is a great bread recipe. I didnt have and yogurt, so I substituted 1/2 cup apple sauce and a heaping tablespoon of cream cheese. I also omitted the eggs in the recipe, but brushed the tops with egg prior to baking, then sprinkled a little corn meal on top. My husband went nuts, he loved it! Thanks, I will be making this again!

Not what i expected for a country bread. Very dense. Good if you want a sweet taste. Easy to Make.

The second time I made this, I added a thin coat of beatened egg to the top before poppping it into the oven and it gave a better appearance. Simple but great tasting bread! Great if you're planning a beef stew for dinner!

We loved this bread. It took twice as long to rise, but it was worth it in the end. The bread was a great texture. We were able to use it for sandwiches, and toast. It was perfect, never crumbled. Thank you for a great recipe!

We made this bread dough and then made Bierocks with it. The bread turned out perfect, very tasty. Everyone commented on how good the bread was! Thanks for sharing this recipe! Update: We made this bread again and added rosemary, thyme, sage and parsley, and made loaves of bread. Absolutely wonderful, this is our NEW bread dough recipe for any bread products we make, with or without herbs! Again, thanks!

It's a good country loaf. It remains more moisture the day after than previous loafs, but is a little sweet for my tastes.

This bread turned out great! My husband absolutely LOVES it! Says it's a keeper for sure. It's a heavier/denser bread...PERFECT to spread with butter and accompany a meal. Will keep making this recipe. Thanks for sharing!

This was my first time making homemade bread. Thanks TheQualityCookdotCom for recommending such a great recipe!! I only had 1 pack of yeast on hand. I halved the recipe and it turned out fantastic!! I am so proud that I finally baked bread. Thanks for the great recipe....I know that I will make it again.

THANK YOU JOANNE!!!!!! This recipe helped me tackle the one thing I have always been afraid of attempting! Fresh bread is so delicious...I made this exactly as directed with the exception of using 1/2 all-purpose flour and 1/2 whole wheat - which, basically made this more of a wheat bread. It was fantastic, and I can't wait to venture out and make other homemade breads!
