I didn't have any ham to put in it and I substituted veggie stock for the water, but this was sooo good! I had green beans right out of the garden and this recipe did them justice. This will be my go-to recipe from now on. Delicious!

Great recipe. I had been looking for a good green bean recipe for a long time. I omitted the ham since we don't eat pork and used ham flavored seasoning instead. And I also used chicken stock.

Great way to cook Green Beans for picky eaters! I used frozen cut green beans and added bacon instead of ham. Very good! Will make green beans like this again.

These were awesome! I didn't have any hamhocks on hand, but I had some left over bacon, which was wonderful. It reminded me so much of my late Mother-in-laws green beans. Thank you so much for sharing.

I used yellow beans and the family ate them all up. I have some pretty picky eaters so that was a good thing!

I followed others' advice and used chicken broth instead of water. I did not have fresh garlic or onion, so I substituted garlic powder (1/8 tsp) and minced onion (about 1 tsp) per another recommendation. I also used frozen green beans. They were great! Lots of compliments.

My mom has been making these green beans for years and now I make them for my family. My kids love them. I usually add country ham if I have it. Good Home Cookin'!

I used bacon because it's what I had on hand. I was looking for something different as a side dish and this was it, good stuff.

This was very good....I also used chicken broth to cook it in...both my kids (7 and 4) liked it alot. Very simple to make. I might try cutting down a little on the butter next time and see if it affects the taste too much.

Very, very good. I did saute the onion and garlic together with the butter until translucent before adding the remaining ingredients. I also took another reviewer's advice and used homemade chicken broth in place of the water.

I don't care for green beans, but I tried your recipe. I actually wanted more. It's even good when you substitute bacon instead of ham. My ole man really likes it. Thanks. Ellport PA

These are so tasty. I followed the recipe except I also cooked them longer like some of the other reviewers. We like our green beans on the softer side.

I am from the south and I never thought of putting garlic into green beans. I tried this recipe because of the excellent rating although I was not sure if my family would like it. I do not think it is right to review a recipe and give it anything other than 5 stars unless I followed the recipe exactly! In this case I did not follow the recipe exactly. Instead of chopped onions and garlic I put powders. Instead of ham I used bacon grease. I also cooked the beans longer than the recipe called for because my family prefers them more tender. My daughter who does not normally like grean beans raved about them! I will make this recipe again!

Mmmmmmm! So good! I used fresh green beans from the garden. I also used 6 strips of bacon rather than ham. I fried the bacon first, then used the leftover grease and about 2 T. butter to make the rest. (I let the bacon drain on a paper towel while the green beans were cooking so they wouldn't lose the crispness.) So tasty! Next time I will use chicken broth instead of water, as other reviewers have noted.

These beans are awesome and easy. Only change I made was using chicken broth instead of water and then I didn't add any salt. My 9-year-old daughter said "this is the first time I have ever liked ANY kind of beans!" Thanks for sharing this recipe.
