I made half the recipe, added two cloves of garlic, some beef broth, and red pepper flakes and it was delicious! The red pepper flakes really brought out the flavor, I think.

This soup is very hearty! I did add some extras to it...I used 4 cans(14.5oz) of cajun style stewed tomatoes instead of plain and 2 cups chicken broth and 1 cup of vegtable broth. Also, 1 can of black beans, carrots and several splashes of "Jack Daniels" hot sauce. Its very tasty. YUM

This recipes is a keeper. As others have mentioned, it's a great base and it's easy to personalize it to your own tastes. I did make some adjustments. I shredded some carrots in my food processor and added that, put in some extra celery as well. I also am a big fan of a brand of bouillon paste called, "Better than bouillon." I put a heaping tablespoon of the vegetable flavor bouillon (they have beef too, but I didn't have any on hand) into the soup as well. I would recommend against stewed tomatoes, since it leaves you with big chunks of tomato. Crushed or diced tomatoes would be much more appropriate. Overall, a nice recipe for a cold winter day. We also added in a scoop of rice with each bowl of soup. Substituting the ground beef with ground sausage or turkey would probably also work.

As mentioned above, this is a great BASE recipe. As is it would be incredibly bland. I added a can of beef broth, simmered the beef with garlic, and tons of seasoning, including hot sauce. Good stuff!

This soup was okay. A little bland. I felt like it needed something more . . . not sure what.

I used this recipe a base. Only used 1 lb. ground beef and 1 can Italian seasoned diced tomotoes. I added 2 cans beef broth, 1 can black beans, an 8 oz carton fresh mushrooms, and I didn't have celery, so I used celery salt and celery flakes. It was wonderful!

Very Good. I added dried thyme (1 tsp), dill weed (1/2 tsp), garlic powder, dried sage (1/2 tsp) and a can of vegetable broth. I used shredded Napa cabbage and shredded red cabbage. Also added a few dashes of hot sauce. It was great!

Yum! I added rice and carrots to make it a little heartier. It tastes sort of cabbage roll-ish
