These are the apple dumplings my grandmother used to make: warm, flaky, sweet, and drizzled with a sauce that bakes right with them. These are not difficult to make, just a little time-consuming. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.

Deliciously simple apple dumplings. This recipe uses a food processor to make dough, it can also be made by hand. If using whole apples stuff them with brown sugar mixture. Place on rolled out dough and cut into equal sized squares. Wrap them by pulling corners up onto top in criss-cross pattern, then seal each corner of dough with egg white. Bake for same amount of time, or until apples are tender.

Whole apples are placed on a square of pastry, slathered with red currant jelly, and coated with a rich mixture of brown sugar, butter and spices. The pastry is then pulled up around each apple and sealed. For the baking, these lovely dumplings are basted with sweetened apple juice.

Simple and delicious, this no crust pie is a pie plate filled with a delightful heap of apples sprinkled with orange juice, and topped with a crumbly sugar, flour, and butter mixture with hints of nutmeg and cinnamon. It bakes in less than an hour and is lovely served warm.
