Great recipe! We all enjoyed it along with some homemade onion rings also on this site! I did have some trouble having the batter stay on, but I hadn't looked at previous reviews to see how to handle that and I'm sure I'll get it to work next time. :)

These turned out perfect. My 13 yr. old daughter thought I was crazy for making homemade corn dogs, but after she tried them she wanted to know when we were having them again. No more store bought corn dogs for this family.

These tasted good, but I had problems frying in skillet. I ended up taking the stick out, but they browned too much. If I can fry better, they would be awesome!

I wasn't sure how these would turn out so I made a half batch. I also cut each dog into 4 pieces and used toothpicks. Made sure the dogs were good and dry before battering them and made sure the oil was real hot. Didn't have a bit of trouble with the batter falling off. Will never buy these at the store again. Thanks for a great recipe!!!

Just a note to those who are trying to be healthy-- baking these corn dogs does not work! I think the batter itself would be great, and we didn't have any trouble getting it to stick once we dried the hot dogs completely. I was hoping to avoid the oil and grease by just baking them and they turned out with a strange taste and texture. If you really want a corn dog, my advice would be to definitely fry them like the recipe calls for :)

i've tried others, and truly this one is the best. i too cut them in half, then dipped into batter to fry. my first half turned out perfectly, but, then my batter started to slip off. i think, and i may be wrong, but next time, i'm going to make sure i'm not dipping anything other than a clean utensil, into the batter to pick up the dogs. that way, the batter stays clean also, when the oil cools down due to cooking, the batter slips so make sure you don't cram too many dogs into your oil. our new favorite corn dog recipe - thanks!

Oh my goodness!!! I've finally found it; the perfect corndog recipe. This takes me back to the county fair and the batter is nice and thick and sticks well(as long as you make sure the dogs are good and dry first). This is definately a keeper, the kids are insisting I make it again tonight and they don't have to twist my arm.

At first I tried the corn starch, but then I ran out, and it really didn't matter. As long as the oil and pan are hot enough, I didn't have any problems with the batter falling off or the corn dogs sticking. Heat up the pan first till water drops dance on the skillet, then add oil and heat the oil. If you add oil to a cold pan the oil will stick and so will your food. A trick my stepfather who is a chef taught me. I thought the recipe was great, I'm going to try different variations, add honey instead of sugar, maybe cheese another time...lots of possibilities.

This recipe is very good. Reminds me of our County Fair Corn Dogs. I did not have wood skewers so I cut the hot dogs in half and it made them easier to cook.

This recipe takes a little bit of practice, but after you’ve made them a few times you can get the hang of it AND it’s well worth the effort. The recipe is wonderful. Getting the batter to stick to the hot dogs is tricky. I’ve found that drying the hot dog as much as possible helps the most, and making sure the oil is hot enough. I don’t use the basket, the hot dogs do go to the bottom but I’ve never had them stick. Also, we like to cut the hot dogs in half or thirds (minus the skewers), then roll in batter and fry. Walla, mini corn dogs! They’re much easier to make and great for smaller kids. Excellent recipe, Suzzanna, thanks!

This is a very difficult, frustrating recipe. When you dip the dogs in the coating, it slides right off. I tried flouring the dogs first as per others' suggestions but that just made the problem even worse. Then when you put them in the fryer, they sink to the bottom and stick to the fryer basket. When you try to pry them loose half the coating stays stuck to the basket. So then you have a fried hotdog halfway covered with coating. Then when they're done and you go to take a bite, the rest of the coating falls off onto your plate. And the flavor is not too special either. Sorry, but this is a dud.

These are awesome. Since the hot dogs are smooth, you need to roll them in flour first. This will help keep the batter on. I poured the batter in a mason jar (quart size) and dipped the hot dogs in the jar. It's alot easier than rolling them around. Thanks

My kids loved the idea of mommy making home made corn dogs. They liked them better than the store bought ones. One hint: if the batter isn't staying on the dog then the oil isn't hot enough. I had that problem :)

These were very good! Authentic corn dog flavor and texture. I also made up a low fat variation using fat free hot dogs and a little wheat flour in the batter.

This recipe wasn't as fabulous as other reviewers claimed it to be. Although it was a good recipe, it doesn't deserve 5 stars. I definitely recommend boiling the hot dogs first to ensure they are thoroughly cooked prior to frying. Although I don't feel it is necessary, you can coat the hot dogs in cornstarch prior to dipping in the batter (I did, but I don't believe it made a difference - so long as you dry the hot dogs properly).
