As a former carney, I LOVE these! The one thing I miss most about being a part of a traveling carnival company is the hand-dipped corn dogs. I have a couple of suggestions for achieving corn dog perfection: 1) Dry the hot dogs with a paper towel before dipping them in the batter. This way, you don't need to coat them with flour or anything before dipping. 2) Make sure your batter is ICE COLD. This will make it thicker and it will resist "melting" off into the oil before it firms up from frying. 3) Use regular Farmer John hot dogs...not the all-beef kind (that's what the carnival food wagons all use!). 4) Omit the black pepper from this recipe. It's not needed.

Sounds crazy, but I had a dream about corn dogs and since I didn't have any frozen ones, I decided to make them and they came out wonderfully. I didn't have any skewers, but that didn't matter. I added a couple extra seasonings - garlic powder, red pepper, and some italian seasoning to kick them up a bit for my own taste. They came out great!

Pretty darn good! I made mini corn dogs since i didn't have any skewers and have a 19 month old. I used honey instead of sugar. To make it easier i used tooth picks and took them out after they were fried. Since I'm only cooking for myself and my son right now (hubby deployed) There were quite a few left so they went into a freezer bag once cooled and froze. I only got one package of hot dogs out of the batter.

My family loved these! I forgot the baking powder, but it seemed to work in my favor b/c the corn dogs didn't puff up and soak in more grease than necessary. I also cut my hot dogs in hate so they would fit in my fry daddy! It's a better portion for a child to eat anyway!

The batter was pretty bland, next time we will add some more spices to punch up the flavor. We used it for the hot dogs and jalepeno poppers. All we had to do was pat dry the dogs and they cooked great the in fryer! Will re-review next time!

Quite a good recipe, a little sweet for me but still works. I did as some of the other reviewers have suggested and only used 3/4 cup milk, i think it were any more watery it wouldn't stick. I also dredged my items in cornstarch first ( or cornflour in the UK) I cooked my stuff in the deep fryer at 190c. I also tried it with cheddar cheese and processed cheese in place of the hotdog. DH never had one before and loved them, reminded me of the cheese on a stick stand. Only down side is even with the cornflour it was hard to get the batter to stick so be careful. I also dipped the dogs in and held on to them for 30 seconds before I dropped them so they wouldn't stick to the basket. Good luch and enjoy. p.s It was a little sweet for me, so next time I will half the sugar. Will make it again though.

I had a slight problem. I prepared everything and everything set the only thing was I had realized I had to deep fry this and I didn't have a deep fryer. every time I tried to put it in the skillet it slid off and it absorbed too much oil.

The batter tastes good, but I couldn't get it to stick to the hot dogs. The hot dogs were thawed and dry, but perhaps I used a corn meal that was too coarse-ground?

I followed this recipe to the letter and it didn't turn out for me. The batter slid off and around the dog making a sort of "batter bed" that the dog rested in. Perhaps my oil temp was too low. The taste was however, bang on! I think I just need to work on my technique!

Great! I used this batter on mini hot dogs and they turned out really well. I'll definitely use this again, but will probably try adding a spoonful of honey (I like my breading a little sweeter). Awesome snack!

Excellent recipe! I don't even like corn dogs but I ate these and loved them! My kids and my husband liked them too. We all liked that they were crispy instead of soft like the other kinds we've had before. I took another reveiwer's advice and fried the hot dogs before I battered them. Fantastic tip! I didn't have skewer sticks so I stuck one end onto a fork, dipped it in batter (which was in a cup), then slid it into the oil using another fork. Worked well enough and it wasn't messy. Other than those two things, I followed the recipe exactly, but my batter would only cover 12 hot dogs. Next time I want to use honey instead of sugar and see what that does.

These are some delicious hot dogs.I did cooked them for 6 minutes but i didn't really let them cool properly i dip them in a cornstarch flour mixture so the batter would stick on them. But that didn't really work and maybe that is because my hotdogs was not cool enough so i just rolled the corndog batter into the rest of the cornstarch mixture.I did add honey to the batter.I'ts my own fault i just couldn't wait untill they cool but they where still good next time i will be patient. In let the hotdog rest at least 10 minutes before i start my dipping of the batter.

Wow! Nutritional slumming at its best. These were perfect. I used foster farms turkey franks and the only thing I would change would be to cut the milk down to 3/4 cup because my batter would slide off the dogs, too wet.
