These are awesome! My kids won't even let me buy them at the store anymore. These are pretty close to what I remember as a kid at the Oklahoma State fair.

Make sure batter isn't too thick. Ice cold batter for dipping.

My daughter loves corn dogs. My son hats corn dogs and I will eat them but.... Now these ones my daughter, son and myself loved them. My son ate the whole thing and wanted more but he was full. I tried to add the flour to the wiener first but it didn't work. I tried batter in the jar and it did work for a few but once the batter goes down it gets to hard to work with. I then did the batter on the plate with mixed results. Will I make these again. Oh yes.

I love the way these corn dogs taste, but my batter was super thick and peeled off in the fryer, even though I rolled the hot dogs in flour.

I'm a vegetarian and used to love corn dogs, I found a protein- hot dog like- substitute which worked perfectly. My boyfriend and I loved this recipe so much, we plan on making it again! ALSO we cut the dogs up into 5-6 pieces, then breaded, then fried.... soooo good bite size! :)

Made this tonight for my husband and our friend. Husband doesn't like corn dogs so he doesn't count. My friend raved that it tastes just like a "real" corn dog. I thought it was delicious. Use a glass to hold the batter for dipping the hot dogs. If your oil isn't hot enough, the batter will come off. If it's too hot, they will burn. There's no secret to getting the batter to stick, just get your oil temperature right and be sure to dry the hot dogs well. Next time I may try grilling the hot dogs first just because I do like a grilled hot dog so much better. I'm not interested in authentic, I'm interested in what tastes good and what tastes good to me are grilled hot dogs.

Great Recipe! Use a tall glass for batter to make it easier to dip. Turn/spin hot dot slightly when removing from batter to make a more even coating. Use good quality hot dogs for best results. We use Nathan's brand.

This was great with the flour rolling method. The first time I tried it with just drying, as recommended by the former carnie, and the dough fell off in the fryer. Also, the corn meal was a bit crunchier than I think it should have been: next time I'll try scalding the milk, mixing it into the cornmeal, and letting it cool before mixing the rest in.
