Corn Bread Hamburger Pie
SUBMITTED BY:
Carol Ellis
"'This one-dish skillet supper is a big hit with children,' remarks Carol Ellis of Quartzsite, Arizona. 'We've added green beans and other vegetables to it and ti always turns out.' To speed up prep, use chopped green pepper and onion."

This is an excellent recipe. Only a couple dirty dishes, some simple ingredients, and TO DIE FOR results. My bf loves this and asks for it all the time. He says it tastes almost like dessert with the sweet corn bread! I like the recipe as-is, or to vary it I will add frozen veggies (corn, beans) to the meat or even use creamed corn in the cornbread part instead of following the box instructions.

WOW - this was so good!!! My roommates wanted to give it a 40 out of 5!!! This is a great meal idea and the corn bread I use calls for creamed corn instead of eggs (I have an egg allergy) - so I had to bake mine a lot longer per the package instructions. I immediately sent the recipe to a friend with two young boys. I know their household will love this recipe as well. I also think this would be good as leftovers as the flavors meld even more :) Thanks for this AMAZING recipe!!!

Good and simple nice for a cold fall day. The best thing about it is that most people have the ingredients stocked all the time. I put some green beans in it to make a quick complete meal.

We all don't like the same thing, and this recipe is a prime example. It has good reviews but, 3 out of 3 didn't care for this, at our house. I didn't like the sweet cornbread with the very ketchup-y flavor of the sauce. I won't be making again.

I think 5 star should be something gourmet. So this recipe is tops among everything else. That's what 4 stars means to me. Such a simple and quick recipe. It's inexpensive, tastes great, great texture from the corn muffin mix batter. Only one pan needed. Use a bigger skillet and double it. Change an ingredient or spice here and there and it can be Iexican, Greek, Italian, German, Cajun... Not elegant dining, but good family entree or sports watching party food.

This recipe was great. I modified it by adding some hot sauce instead of steak sauce and some garlic. Next time I am also going to add some cheese.

The adults liked this, the kids didn't (but they don't like steak sauce...so I should have known). It could have baked longer than 15 minutes as the corn bread was not cooked completely through. Added some garlic powder, black pepper, and seasoned salt but other than that made no alterations. Will try again without the steak sauce to see if the kids like it better.

My husband and I love this recipe! I like to cook a 2nd corn bread b/c I like a higher bread ratio than the original recipe calls for. (I either cook the 2nd bread in another pan or double it on the meat mixture, but if you double it, it takes double the time)

This is a very old recipe. I add a can of red kidney beans(drained) & little chili powder. Is very good left overs.
