I made a big batch of this testing different types of toppings. I did one half in marshmallows, the other half marshmallow cream. I did a row of heath, a row of reeses, a row of butterfinger, and a row of chocolate chips and butterscotch chips.
Here is my consensus: it depends on your personal taste. I thought the Reeses with chocolate chips was awesome, it went well with the peanut butter in the crust. I also thought the chocolate chips and butterscotch chips was also awesome. The candy bars fared okay, but I broke them down a bit too small. If you are going to do candy bars, do big chunks.
Now the hard part. Marshmallows or the cream. I really liked both. But if you're going for the marshmallow taste with your chocolate chips, use marshmallows cream. If your looking for chocolate flavor with your marshmallows, use marshmallows. Bottom line is the real marshmallows give more flavor, so it's how much marshmallow you want coming through in your recipe.
My last piece of advice is don't be afraid to stretch the crust thin. I used an air bake cookie sheet and spread the whole thing, and I thought the crust was still a little thick. But if you're going for the thick crust, by all means, don't listen to me.
