For the first reviewer: Shortening is a solid (i.e. Crisco Vegetable Shortening that comes in a can or in sticks). It is not a liquid (oil). The frosting recipe is pretty standard and works quite well when the specified ingredients are used. If you would like, you could substitute more butter for the shortening but that makes it very rich and not very shelf stable. In fact, it also makes the frosting a bit softer. Also, when trimming the cupcakes on a round cupcake, you can create the heart shape.

I just tried it and unfortunately the frosting was a little greasy. I used a little over 1/4 cup of shortening (oil) vs 1/2 cup. My cupcakes looked really cute with the pastel colors I used. The cake was good - just followed the recipe on the box.
