I used others reviews and used my crock pot, way more easier. I did change some as other reviews stated. I didn't have any brown gravy so I used some beef broth and cornstarch to thicken it up. I added some onions, fresh mushrooms, baby carrots and potatoes. Yes it did need more flavor though, I will do again, but add some more seasoning to it. My kids and husband liked it. Thanks for sharing.

For those who are worried about it being too sweet after reading some of these reviews, try using beer instead of cola. My family doesn't like the sweet taste of this recipe when made with cola, but if I use beer, no one stops eating! It's my 2 and 7 year old's favorite meal, and thats saying a lot since they are both very picky eaters. Also, some have mentioned the carrots not being tender enough. I cook this for 5 hours in my crockpot, and prior to putting it all in I boil the potatoes and baby carrots for just a short while to soften them up a bit. Just don't boil for too long or they will get mushy. Based on my family's tastes, this recipe with cola is 1 star, but 5 stars when made with beer!

Just not to my liking - the gravey was almost sickeningly sweet and seemed to overpower any other flavours.

I've tryed this recipe twice now and have loved it each time. First time I could've cooked it a little longer, but most of the meat still came out juicy and the flavor was amazing. 2nd time we used a different cut of meat and it was just the most tender flavorful thing ever. I do leave out the celery and don't use so much coke, I also add in some potatos later on, but other than that, everything else is the same. Wonderful recipe.. I'm so glad I found it

Excellent, it was aromatic, tender, juicy and a real crowd pleaser. I used red potatoes, baby carrots and fresh mushrooms. I just added them until it looked right. I will definately make this again.

The meat was very tender, but the flavor was only ok. It was unremarkable.

BEER INSTEAD OF COLA. This a great recipe. I like to make it with a a bottle of beer instead of cola. Also add a good sized sweet onion quartered (or smaller if it is a large onion). Add four or five red potatoes, quartered, with skin on. Increase carrots to six. Dust with flour and salt and pepper and braise on hot stove with a little olive oil before putting in the pot. Cook in crock pot for four to five hours on high, or eight hours on low. Add more beer if not enough liquid.

This recipe just didn't taste right. It was too sweet for something that should have been very savory. I will not be giving this another try.

This recipe was great! The only thing I did differently was put it in my crock pot on low for 8 hours and it came out perfect! Instead of 10 ounces of soda I used 8 because some of the others said it was too sweet, but It tasted great! My husband loved it and he's not a huge pot roast fan! Thanks for the recipe!

I made this for sunday dinner in a crock pot and it was fabulous! My husband loved it and my kids also thought it was great. I think it was the best roast I had ever made. I didn't have cream of mushroom so I used cream of chicken and it was great!

I cooked this in the crock pot. I tasted a bit of the gravy right before serving and I found it to be a bit strange, just not a tatse that was appealing to me. In an attempt to fix that problem, I opened a jar of brown gravy and mixed it in and it actually made it taste better. For the cooks who thought the meat was bland, you could try rubbing the roast down with some McCormick seasoning. I never make a roast without it. It gives it great flavor. I don't think I would like to cook another roast again using cola. Some say it made the meat tender, but every roast I have ever made in the crock pot has been just as tender. My family and I enjoyed this, but I think we all like my old recipe better.

Delish! I used cream of celery soup since my DH hates mushrooms, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. The sauce is wonderful!

I made this recipe tonight for dinner. It was amazing. It's just 3 of us so I used a smaller 3 LB chuck roast. I altered it a bit. I used more cola than required. I used 6 oz Pepsi and 8 oz of cherry Coke. I also rubbed roast with a minced glove of garlic and sprinkled McCormick Pot Roast Seasoning on both sides, then browned on top of stove. I added more carrots and celery than called for also threw in 2 potatoes whole skins and all to absorb any extra salt from the seasoning. I adjusted cooking time for the smalller roast. Then used the drippings (strained and added some cream and wonder gravy flour to give the gravy a little thickness). It was wonderful. My family loved it. I will def. use this again. The meat was moist and flavorful, and my DH never new there were mushrooms, he doesn't like them. He raved over how good it was.
