This cake is fantastic. Very rich and very satisfying; it tastes so warm! I ended up running out of milk, so I used heavy whipping cream instead -- it still turned out tasting excellent, so the recipe was pretty forgiving.

Sumptuous cake really perfect for coffee or tea time. It is perfect served hot when you feel the apple bits in your mouth.

This recipe was great! I would bring the sugar/flour/milk mixture to a SLOW boil on low heat, as it's easy to burn the milk, you really have to keep an eye on it. The family loved this one!!!

The clove-apple combination works very well. Made it in a 9x5 loaf pan with the following changes: Reduced butter to 4 Tablespoons butter and added 2 Tablespoons yoghurt. Reduced sugar to half cup (white and muscovado in equal parts). Made one version with whole wheat flour which turned out great. Tried another version with a combination of oat, barley and whole wheat flour. The second one was not as good! Regardless, the original recipe is flavorful and quite forgiving.

This is about the best cake I've ever tasted, and that's a big complement coming from me since I've eaten about all the cake there are. There really isn't anything I can say about this exept for it was a wonderful dessert, and I would eat the whole recipe if my husband didn't put it away! Also, the custard makes a great dessert by itself and is also good over fresh fruit. Thank you one billion times!
