Oh my gosh, this was fantastic!!! I had my first taste of Cioppino at Scoma's in San Francisco and when I ran across this recipe I knew I had to try it. The only modifications to original recipe were that I omitted the cod and used seafood broth instead of chicken. My fiance raved about it, especially the soup. I had to make a special trip to Whole Foods to get the shellfish and they weren't cheap but oh so worth it! Can't wait to try the leftovers as soups/stews are usually better the second time around.

Fantastic. I could not get mussels, so I doubled the clams, which worked out great. I also used Mahi instead of Cod. I used fresh thyme and basil because I had some leftover from another recipe. Rave reviews. Makes a lot!

Outstanding! My Hubby and I made this for a Valentine's Day Dinner. Better than anything we could have gotten at a restaurant. Only changes we made were to add some red pepper flakes to Step 1 and to add cod after the shells of the clams start to open. Next time, will add more red pepper flakes, and since the frozen shrimp we added were already cooked, would have either not thawed them when added, or wait until the clams were opened and add with the fish. Taste was absolutely outstanding!

Very good place to start! I added WAY more garlic, and cooked clams first. I also omitted water and used homemade lamb stock (it's all i had!), white wine and ground tomatoes for the broth.

OMG This was wonderful! I pretty much followed the directions exactly except: I added a small bunch of chopped basil rather than dried I added three small cans of Hunt Tomato Sauce I added one can of chopped clams w/broth I added more clams, mussels and shrimp I did not add fish or crab I first added the clams and mussels and let them cook until opened. Then I added the scallops and shrimp at the last minute. The reason I added three small cans of tomato sauce is because my brother, Chris, wanted it served over linguini. It was his birthday and I was excited about preparing this for him. Don't add salt. I added a pinch and it really didn't need it. This was a wonderfully easy and tasty dish to prepare. I will definitely make it again and again. Thank you for sharing it with us. MC

I am a Portuguese citizen living in the USA for more than 1 year now and when I first saw this dish I knew I had to do it. This is a Portuguese dish called "Caldeirada". I did this recipe yesterday and me and my husband (he's Portuguese too) we loved it! I'll do it again, and again and again... It's not cheap though..but it's worth it.

The recipe was very good and my family liked it. It was 100% tastier the next day. I added some tomato paste to give some extra flavor. I also served over plain pasta with extra french bread. I would definitely make again!

This recipe was fantastic! I made it for m by fiancee and I for New Year's Eve. I cut the recipe down for just the two of us: 10 clams,16 mussels, 1/4 lb scallops, 1/2 lb of shrimp, 1/2 lb of cod and we left out the crab because of sketchy pickings at the grocery store. It was such an easy meal but made me feel like a world class chef. An excellent start to 2009!

I left out the mussles, but otherwise it was wonderful. Even the kids ate it.

Absolutely delicious!! This was a hit! Everyone loved the fact that the broth was lighter than a traditional Cioppino base, with less of the traditional tomato sauce consistancy. This is a flavor packed dish....I wouldn't change a thing...perfect as is!

Excellent recipe! I made the following changes. First, I halved the recipe. I only added cod and scallops. Since I did not have fresh onion or garlic - I added dried onions/garlic powder. I used leftover white wine from fridge and instead of stewed tomatoes - used 2 cans of petite diced tomato.
