This is truly an 'oldie', dating back to a Swedish woman born in 1877! her daughter, Esther Davis, shared the recipe with me and she came up with all the exact measurements, since the original cookies were mixed by 'feel' and taste. These are my favorite cookies and I hope they'll become yours as well.

I have had this recipe for about 40 years, and in that time I've made a few changes. These cookies are my husband's favorite, so I bake them for him almost every week. One of my daughter's friends still remembers having these special treats when she stopped in on her way home from school. -Dollie Ainley, Doniphan, Missouri

'My grandmother always had sugar cookies in her pantry,' recalls Evelyn Poteet of Hancock, Maryland, who now regularly bakes these wonderful cookies to share with friends. 'We grandchildren would empty that big jar quickly because those cookies were the best!'

These easy-to-make cookies simply melt in your mouth! I've passed the recipe around to many friends. After I gave the recipe to my sister, she entered the cookies in a local fair and won the 'best of show' prize!

I've had this recipe for more than 40 years but can't recall its origin. Cinnamon, chocolate chips and orange peel pair nicely in these outstanding cookies. --Barbara Ehlers, Florence, Wisconsin
