These were great!! I didn't roll them in sugar because other reviewers said they were too sweet that way. They don't need the sugar on the outside. I also used 1 cup butter (no shortening on hand).

This recipe works great as written. They have a wonderful flavor. I rolled them in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon. If you want them to have more of a cinnamon flavor than nutmeg, I suggest cutting back on the amount of nutmeg shown here.

Very nice little cookies. I love the crackling, and they are easy to whip up. I followed the recipe as is, and while I really like them, I think they are a bit too sweet. Bf even agreed, and usually he doesn't agree with me (he likes things sweeter than I do), so I think maybe I'll put in less sugar next time. I'd skip the rolling in sugar part except I love the sparkle that comes because of it. Thanks for the recipe! I'll make these again!

You're efforts have certainly paid off with this recipe. The flavor was wonderful, and everything seemed to "marry" well together. I sent some of these cookies along with other Christmas cookies into work with my husband, and these were the faves of the bunch. I followed the recipe to the T, and am planning to make more to give out as gifts! Thanks for a great recipe.

I make these cookies every year, they are my very favorite! They keep well, and they turn out perfect for me every time. I've used dried peel before in a pinch, but prefer fresh lemon and orange peel.

Just what you would expect from the compilation of years of baking. What looks like a boring cookie, especially to those who, like my family, think "cookie" means "chocolate chip cookie," is in fact one of the best cookies we've ever had. Not just if you like "that sort of thing" which is the only reason I can think of for some popular cookie recipes (snickerdoodles) but a just plain perfect, crispy outside and soft and chewy inside flavorful, simple cookie. I will even go so far as to call it the perfect cookie. A little dramatic, but that just how surprised we all were, and how pleased, parents, kids, and baby.

Good cookie! Very good flavor, but I only needed to bake them for 8-9 mins. I like a chewier cookie, but they still are a crispy cookie on the outside. I didn't have any oranges in the house, so I skipped the orange zest and only used lemon. You can hardly taste the almond extract. It's very subtle. Perhaps I would increase that slightly next time because I really like that flavor. I also used 1/2 cup whole wheat pastry flour because I always try to add a little fiber in my recipes. They are very tasty!

These are fantastic. I did add ground pecans to the recipe because we love pecans. Other than that, I didn't change a thing. I froze half of them and they freeze well. Son in Afganistan loved them too. Thanks.

These cookies are wonderful. I made them exactly as written and removed from the oven crisp and yet chewy cookies(they are a thin cookie). I used fresh citrus peel and it was so good in the cookies. I am always looking for "different" homemade cookies to share with family and friends and this one is will be filed with my best recipes. Thanks for sharing this.
