I added 1 can of cream of tomato soup as someone suggested but it was on the dry side. I should have reduced the bread crumb mixture as someone suggested....way too much! And the leftovers are dry but I will add some milk and hope for the best. The flavor is good, not your traditional mac and cheese but tasty! Thanks!

This was the first time I made mac and cheese from scratch and it was a huge disappointment. The texture was gross and it was greasy with all the breadcrumbs on top. I will not be making this again.

This was great, I really enjoyed it, but it was REALLY rich! I think it was the cottage cheese, but it tasted a little saltier and not as cheesy as the way I normally make mac. I used almost double the cheddar too.....the bread crumbs were good, I followed the recipe exactly except for using more cheese.

I have made this recipe several times and plan to make it again tonight. It is my husband's favorite recipe. It totally rocks - you gotta try it! I make mine with penne for something a little different.

the bread crumbs never got crunchy- they were soggy. next time i will do it the way my mom does - butter sliced bread and cut into squares. i added ham to mine, which gave it some flavor, i was surprised how bland it was. probably will not make this again.

Tastes better the next day, but even with a dash of Bragg's Seaonings, it was still a little bland for my taste.

I've made a few mac & Cheese recipes from this site. This one has been the easiest and tastiest so far. As for the breadcrumbs, I used Panaku (it was all that I had) and it gave a REALLY extra crunchy topping, which the husband loved.

Excellent! I made the recipe exactly as is and it was delicious! I think it could have been even better with more cheese so Ill be adding more next time. As for the bread crumbs, I had read previous reviews that said they thought it was too much so I was curious to see how it turned out, as I used the recommended amount...as a result, I see no need to use less, it was perfect!

Sooo tasty! I added extra cheddar, and used about 3/4 of the bread crumbs. Will definitely be making this again! My nephew (who is 3 years old) couldn't get enough of this mac & cheese!

This is so good! Only thing is that you only need about 3/4 cup of bread crumbs - i didn't use all of them.

Excellent recipe, this mac & cheese is delicious! I used reduced fat sharp cheddar, parmesan, cottage cheese and sour cream and it still tasted great so the recipe can easily be lightened up a bit. Also, I took other reviewer's advice and added about 1/4 cup of skim milk to the mix to keep it moist and the result was perfect. Definitely a recipe I will keep coming back to.

Absolutely DELICIOUS!! I hate the SITE of cottage cheese and was VERY hesitant to try this ... but I did because it made it fairly healthy :) I followed it to a tee except I didn't do the breadcrumbs. It was late and I was too lazy! I sprinkled more of the sharp cheddar cheese on the top and OMG ... sooo good! I didn't tell my husband that it had cottage cheese and sour cream until he told me how DELICIOUS it was. He was amazed and had seconds. I am eating it right now at my desk, ice cold ... it's like a macaroni pie! No signs of cottage cheese and GREAT flavor. I used 'reduced-fat' sour cream. Thanks for this one! Making it for guests next week. Can't wait to tell them what's in it! Oh, and I used a different small pasta instead of elbows because that's what I had ... rattoulli or something.

This was all crumbs and macaroni, no cheese. It was dry, and tasted nothing like mac & cheese. I thought crumbs and butter was going to make a crispy top, but NO... it was dry and crumbly. I won't make this again.

I used whole wheat pasta and halved the bread crumb topping. Tasted sourish and the white cottage cheese is unexpected to see. Wanted more of a traditional savory cheddary taste.

This is my new go to recipe for mac and cheese. I use extra sharp cheddar and a good dose of cayenne pepper to give it some zing. I leave off the bread crumbs. This stuff disappears instantly when I make it. Thanks for the recipe!
