This is a very "grown up" mac & cheese (but not so grown up that the kdis don't enjoy it--it IS mac & cheese!) Quite yummy! I use Italian bread crumbs, and instead of the sour cream, I use a pint of ricotta and one egg, as in more traditional italian cooking. This is a great quick fix, and an even better freezer meal to pull out on busy night--I'll actually be taking it to Thanksgiving this year.

Delicious! I just sprinkled the bread crumbs on top, it called for way too much. I think next time we will use more cheese

I love, love, love this recipe! It is even great making it a little healthier by using lowfat cottage cheese and low fat sour cream with whole wheat pasta. I also sometimes mix ham or kielbasa in with it to make it a casserole! This is definitely a family fav!

Too many bread crumbs, about a 1/4 cup would be plenty, then this would be a five star recipe. I'll try it again with this one modification!

it was alright. I thought it was a bit too sour tasting... probably because of the cottage, parm, and sour cream, which are all a bit sour tasting. Also the consistancy was a bit off... probably the chunks of cottage cheese... one reviewer suggested sending it through a processor, which I may try if there is a next time. maybe I'll leave out the sour cream and just use half and half, or butter and milk

AWESOME!!! I will never go back to the traditional way of making mac-n-cheese.. I followed the instructions but made some alterations.. I did used BARILLA Multigrain- Elbows and Whole Grain Medium Shells I used 8 oz. of each because I was making a huge pan of this. So naturally I had to increase the amount of sour cream and cheese. I kept with the same amount of cottage cheese. I did alter the topping, I used bread crumbs w/ mixture of crunched up potato chips, I also put a little shredded cheese in the mix of the topping.... WHEN IT WAS DONE IT WAS GREAT.. I must say when I make it next week again for thanksgiving I will also add to the topping crunched up bacon.. I have uploaded pictures of what I made today.

I would give just the crunchy buttery bread crumbs on top of the mac and cheese 5 stars by themselves. For me those MADE this meal. I used milk instead of sour cream, which I'm glad because I don't like things tasting too sour. And I used less than called for. I also added some onion, garlic and cayenne powder for extra flavor. It turned out better than I imagined.

Great base recipe with adjustments. Skip the bread crumbs entirely. DO add 1/2 cup milk to the mixture. And to create a creamier sauce, blend the cottage cheese until nearly smooth, then add remaining ingredients in processor and whirl together for a few seconds. I also added hot dogs for more flavor!

Although it was not bad, I really didn't love this recipe. I grew up eating my mom's mac and cheese made with a very basic cheese bechamel sauce and this doesn't really measure up...it had more of a dry/lumpy texture (and I added 1/2 cup of milk as some reviewers had suggested).

I didn't care for as much of the bread crumbs as there were and it was not as "creamy" as I would have preferred, that can be tweaked though and that being said, it has a delicious flavor to it.

This was pretty good but I was looking for something a bit more creamy. My husband didn't care for the topping on it. I'll probably just stick with my basic recipe.

After making this I had to go back and see if I followed the recipe correctly, which I did. It was good I guess, and very easy to make, but the cheese sauce didn't come together at all. It was like cottage cheese with melted bits of cheddar sprinkled throughout. I like macaroni and cheese to have a thick, smooth, creamy sauce, and this didn't come out that way at all. It didn't taste bad, it was just disappointing cause it wasn't what I think of when I think of mac and cheese.

I thought this was a really good quick and easy Mac N Cheese. I usually make a very labor intensive mac for special occassions. I wouldn't make this when I want to impress because the flavors aren't intense enough but I will make it again for a regular dinner when I'm craving cheesy carbs! I will also add in some extras next time (bacon, veggies, cayenne pepper, etc).
