This is my favorite mac & cheese recipe yet. Rather than the bread crumbs and butter, I normally use croutons- garlic cheese flavor. Sometimes I put them over top whole, and other times I crush them into crumbs. We love the flavor these give. Great recipe- OH, and I normally don't care much for cottage cheese, but I think it really makes this recipe great!

I made this twice: once by following the recipe exactly, next by omitting the bread crumbs and adding half & half cream with the different cheeses... I liked it better the 2nd time. Either way, fantastic recipe!

This was the BEST mac and cheese i've ever had! It was very easy to make and I loved the flavors with the different kinds of cheese, using sour cream really gave it a unique taste that everyone seemed to really enjoy. The only change I made was I used italian bread crumbs instead which added an even better flavor to everything. I will definately make this again.

I didn't realize how much I liked this until lately I've started craving it more and more. I actually added 1cp of grated carrots to add nutrients.

very good but I would NOT use the breadcrumbs on the top. If anything I would use Ritz cracker crumbs

This was excellent!! I quadrupled the recipe for a Thanksgiving family get together and it was a huge hit! I followed everything to the T, except, I used 1 cup of heavy whipping cream since I had it on hand (and a few other reviews I read indicated it's not as creamy as they'd like). I separated the mac n' cheese into 2 very large casserole pans. I didn't add the breading/butter mixture to one just to see if I liked it better with or w/ out that. (since other reviews also stated the bread crumbs on top make it even drier. I wasn't sure what else I could add to make it creamier with out changing the taste, but it was delicious. I do think it would have been just as good creamier though! So I wonder if there is something I could add to help that out, but not change the taste very much. Anyway, this was a great side for our HUGE Thanksgiving Day dinner!

Good, but too rich for our taste. Cut bread crumbs to 1/4 cup and added 1/2 cup milk. Some guests really liked it. Probably won't make it again.

I made this recipe as it states and my family found it to be too salty and not creamy enough. We are used to the white sauce mac and cheese and wanted to try something different. I probably won't make this again but I am glad to have tried something new.

The was okay to me but the family said it was good. I took too many suggestions from other reviewers when I should have tried this as written first.

Loved it! Use garlic breadcrumbs for added flavor. I used 1/4 cup of milk to make it creamier.

I doubled the recipe because I took it to my mom's for Thanksgiving. I used a 9x13 and an 8x8, spraying Pam on each so the dishes wouldn't be too hard to clean. I used ziti pasta and also added about 1/2 c. milk, a little garlic powder, extra parmesan cheese, and a few tablespoons of light butter, hoping this would make the recipe creamier. I lightly sprinkled breadcrumbs on top of both dishes. They were ready after about 35 minutes and I took a bite as soon as i took them out of the oven. It tasted great. However, by the time we ate the macaroni was dry as a bone! I had lids on them so they were still very warm, but it wasn't creamy at all! Unfortunately, only half of one of the dishes got eaten. Tomorrow we are going back for leftovers so I am going to try pouring more milk on top and popping it in the oven again. So as of right now, I will give 3 stars....if tomorrow goes any better, I will change it!

Soooo good and cheesy! I didn't have cottage cheese so I used some mozza and cream cheese instead. I also used about 1/2 to a cup of cream as suggested by others and added about a cup of grated marble cheese to top the casserole off. I did the bread crumb butter mixture but I think next time I would just omit it altogether as the recipes is quite decadent as it is.

This was quick and tasted pretty good. I got compliments, but it wasn't special. Not a creamy texture.
