I use a box of curtons instead of bread. I make these to give to family on christmas eve night so they can cook it christmas morning. Fits perfect in the square 8x8 tins so you don't have to worry about getting your dish back:) Used the extras eggs suggested by others and halfNhalf I also like the breakfast sausage but spicy would be good for adults.

This was such a hit with my guests at my breakfast party this morning, and a huge hit with me! Doubled the recipe, but used 18 eggs, and 2 cups of half n half instead of milk. Put 2 1/2 bags of Texas Toast Garlic and Cheese Croutons on the bottom of a 9x13 pan. Then cooked the 2 lbs Maple Sausage with chopped onions and put that layer. Then a layer of cheddar cheese (I did half sharp/half mild), then the egg mixture. 45 minutes cooked covered at 350, then 20 minutes uncovered at 325. I sprinkled a little more cheese on top when I uncovered it, for the last 20 min of cooking. Filling, beautiful, tasty, addictive, and a great thing to make when you have to cook in bulk for a breakfast party! I served with biscuits! Thanks for this keeper of a recipe!

I've made this a few times and have come to the realization that you really can't screw it up! I've made it slightly different every time, and prefer to use a hot sausage and an extra egg or two. The hot sausage gives it that extra flavor that everyone seems to love - even people who don't like spicy!

Used the sausage for this. Didn't really like the fact that you couldn't really tell there were eggs in there - the flavor was dark. When compared to the Amish Breakfast Casserole, I made both of them to feed more than 30 people; the Amish Breakfast Casserole won hands down. I had leftovers from this one.

I thought this was good, my husband went back for seconds (and thirds). Next time, I think I will decrease the amount of bread, as the consistency was more like a bread pudding (versus a egg casserole or quiche, which was what I expected). I will definitely take others advice and experiment with ham/ red peppers, broccoli, asparagus, jalapenos....skies the limit!

This was very good - the best make ahead breakfast casserole I've had. I did reverse the order of the eggs and toast and only used 1 1/2 cups milk.

I made this but used 8 eggs and my store didn't have the maple flavored sausage so I drizzled maple syrup over the pork and bread and then added the eggs and cheese. It turned out great and the syrup gave it a great smell while baking.

This was great - I used Cabot 75% fat free cheddar, garlic cheese croutons and 8 eggs. I prepared on Thanksgiving morning for guests, and have since made it several times for supper paired with spinach salad. Easy to prepare in the morning and pop in the oven in the evening!

This was a great recipe! I followed some of the suggestions from other people to modify the original recipe a bit. I also added some red and green pepper, onion and mushrooms to get my daily vegetable intake up there. The consistency is great and I loved it!

This is always such a huge hit anytime I make it. I have used a fiesta blend cheese and Parmesan cheese instead of the cheddar and it was really tasty also.
