YUM! I split the recipe into 2 pie plates; 1 w/4 slices toasted white bread; 1 w/cheese/garlic croutons. Both are good, but the crouton version is better. Used 10 eggs and full amount of milk;also whisked 1 packet of country gravy mix into the milk before whisking into the eggs. added green onion to both versions; green chiles to one of them. Baked per orig directions. I really don't think you can mess this up! Can't wait to try one with bacon and mushroom. Yumyumyum!! This is the PERFECT solution for any Holiday morning!! Thanks for posting!

This is my FAVORITE recipe. My mother-in-law makes this every Christmas and the recipe was orginally found it in a church cookbook. I usually omit the bread cubes as my husband has Celiac Disease. I get requests for this recipe ALL the time, made exactly as is and when I omit the bread cubes. I've even made it with turkey breakfast sausage, eggbeaters, and 2% cheese and it still gets rave reviews.

First thing my husband said on November 1st of this year, "It's almost time for that breakfast casserole!" So this is pretty much one of the best things about Christmas dining. I do make sure to drain the sausage to avoid the casserole becoming too greasy.

Very good and easy recipe. I used some of the advice from other reviews and used cheese and garlic crutons instead of bread and maple breakfast sausage. The whole thing turned out great. I did not need to cook it for as long as suggested, so keep an eye on yours while it is cooking to make sure you don't overcook it.

We love this in my house! I always use 1 1/2 lbs of sausage and the 1/2 lb is hot! The other is regular or sage. I never toast the bread and have made it with different types of bread & it is always good. I always seem to add sauteed onion & sliced mushrooms and use more cheese than is called for.

We have used basically the same recipe on Christmas morning for years! The only real difference is we drizzle one can of CREAM OF MUSHROOM soup mixed with a little milk to loosen and drizzle over the top before baking. We traditionally serve the brunch with curried fruit, cheese grits casserole and mimosa's...then go take a nap :)

It was great, but I added sauteed mushrooms and onions, once I put in 8oz of cream cheese in blender with eggs,I too use more eggs. I have mixed in spinach and use half and half. My girlfriends will get up early Christmas morning and be at my house when I am making this. We serve with fruit, pastries and coffee. It is a big hit. I bake it longer at 300 degrees. It gives it more time to cook center without drying out.

I've made this recipe for years, with many variations. Sometimes I take the time to brown frozen hash brown cut potatoes for the bottom layer. I also have added mushrooms and/or frozen chopped spinach on top of the sausage. I also tend to use a lot more eggs - 8 or more, depending on which variation I'm making.

Recipe was definitely a good start, and then I followed other suggestions to finish it up. I used croutons instead of bread, and used half regular sausage and half spicy sausage. Now this is a family favorite!

This recipe was very good. I did double the eggs and next time I will cut the sausage in half as well. We aren't big meat eaters. Everyone loved it.

Had a brunch yesterday and this was the first thing that went. Everyone loved it- two people asked me for the recipe. I didn't even get to taste it! Made it with 8 pieces of bread and 6 eggs, kept everything else the same. A big hit!

Great starter recipe but if you are daring, change it up! I added cooked crumbled bacon onto the top and used american cheese instead cause I didn't have cheddar, and added minced purple onion!

So very yum and versatile, too. I added chunks of zucchini for just a little more volume. Excellent!

Last night when I decided that I was going to make this I thought that I had everything on hand, so I had to make some changes. I only had on hand sausage links so I cut them up and cooked them, but I also decided to add some bacon to the recipe and I used about 6 slices cut up. After i cut up the toast to me it didn't look like enough for the family so I doubled the bread and as I did that I also added to eggs. Other then that I kept it ingrediants the same I we all thoroughly enjoyed the recipe, there was none left. People were going back for seconds and thirds
