I didn't have the unsweetened chocolate on hand like most reviewers so I took the suggestion of 3 tbsp cocoa, 2 tbsp melted butter as a substitution. I also used 1/2c of oil and 1/2c of applesauce and added 1/2c of fat free sour cream. I baked them as muffins and a loaf and the muffins took about 18-19 minutes and the loaf took about 40 minutes or so. I also only used 1 1/2c of sugar rather than the 2c. Next time i'll likely add a bit more cocoa powder.

Wonderfully moist cake. I used all whole wheat flour, and replaced 3/4 of the oil with applesauce, and it's day three and the cake is still delightfully moist and hasn't gotten chewy at all (as I've had other recipes do with the apple sauce replacement). I also used four tightly packed cups of zucchini.

I brought this to work and everyone loved it. I used half whole wheat flour and I think that with all the chocolate, oil, and sugar you could even use all whole wheat flour if you want. I put in a little extra zucchini (these quick breads always seem able to handle more veggie or fruit if you have it). The chocolate chips do tend to get to the bottom, but it's okay.

It's not quite zucchini bread and not quite chocolate bread. It tries to be too many things at once and does neither very well. It's good and moist and chocolatey--just not the best and not what I was looking for.

Had some zucchini on hand that I had bought to make a Weight Watchers soup recipe, but after a day on the diet, decided to scrap the whole thing and found this yummy chocolate zucchini bread recipe to use up the zucchini instead. This is so delicious and so full of chocolate, you can't even tell there is zucchini in it.

Awesome way to sneak some veggies to the kiddos!! As usual, I substituted like crazy. But anything that I did would have only made it taste worse, and I thought it was incredible even after I sub'd it to death. I used all whole wheat flour, I cut the oil to 1/4 cup & added 1 cup of applesauce. Then I added 3 Tbsp of molasses & used raw sugar (which I cut to 1 1/2 cups). Also, I didn't have squares of chocolate, so I sub'd 6 Tbsp of cocoa powder & added it to the dry ingredients. So even after all of those healthnut changes, it turned out delicious. And it's even better if you sprinkle some mini chocolate chips across the top of the loaf when you pull it out of the oven. Mmmmmm...

Very Good...I used this recipe, but I did not have any unsweetened chocolate, so I used 3T cocoa mixed with 1T of veg oil. I also used 3/4 c sugar with 3/4 c of Splenda blend instead of 2 c of sugar. I used 1/2 applesauce in place of 1/2 cup of oil. Mini choc chips worked great. It was a hit!!

Very yummy!! I made some changes however; instead of 1 cup oil, i did 1/2 cup and 1/2 cup applesauce - also I used 1 cup chocolate chips instead of 3/4. And i didn't have chocolate squares, so I used 6 tblsp cocoa and 2 tblsp butter as suggested by others. It turned out delicious - the only problems were the chips sank to the bottom (as others had already noticed) and it stuck to the bottom of the pan even though I greased it quite a bit.

Very good. I sometimes use applesauce instead of oil. Also, I have found that the melted chocolate can be a bit tricky to stir into the mixture (it hardens on the spoon, spatula, etc. I add the oil (or applesauce) to the chocolate before mixing into the rest, and it works quite well.

I love this recipe and it's always a huge hit and parties/bake sales and brunches! I'm always asked for this recipe and people are amazed it's zucchini bread! I use more apple sauce with a little oil and it makes it moister and brings in a hint of flavor. Very tasty!

Yum. A week ago we made this bread exactly as written, dividing it into a smaller loaf pan and a cupcake tin. Tonight, we "discovered" a lone cupcake still in a plastic container in the refrigerator. My husband asked if we should throw it away because he was sure it would be disgusting and dry. We each took a half and then instantly regretted sharing. Moist, delicious and wonderful.

A moist, dense cake-like bread...I followed the recipe pretty closely and it turned out great. It stuck to the pan a bit & the chocolate chips did not disperse evenly throughout the loaves (they sank to the bottom of the bowl, so the last loaf got the most). I sprinkled some extra chocolate chips on top of the loaves to ensure a more even distribution but they didn't sink in. Still delicious overall!

This is wonderful. I used 3/4 c applesauce and 1/4 oil. Used only 1 1/3 c sugar and still super good. I made one loaf and one pan of muffins. Will for sure make again! Everyone loves it.

This was a very tasty bread/cake. I would have liked it more chocolatey, and I'm sure it would have been if I'd had all of the ingredients. Here were the modifications I made: 2 Tbs. cocoa instead of the chocolate, and no chocolate chips, because I was out; half wheat flour and half white; half brown sugar and half white; organic chocolate extract and organic orange extract (1 tsp. each) instead of the vanilla. Additionally, even though I used homemade baker's secret, which prevents almost everything from sticking, I had to cut this into pieces to get it out of the bundt pan.
