sorry, dorothy, but this cake was not good to us, too dark, too dense, and not sweet enough, plus it didn't rise hardly at all--we are at high altitude ~7000 feet, so less chocolate, more sugar, more leavening, an egg perhaps, and high altitude adjustments where appropriate would probably make this cake better

This cake was only "yum-yum" right out of the oven, which is why I'm giving it 3 stars. However, by the next day it wasn't so good. The taste was bland- not quite a good chocolate cake, and not quite a good spice cake. The texture was fragile and crumbly, possibly because it contains no eggs. It broke coming out of the bundt pan, and when I cut or ate it, it was reduced to bits (which are now all over my kitchen floor). At least my young children liked it. My husband loves cake and chocolate, but would not eat this after tasting it. So, I will not be making this again.
