Today was my first time making this syrup and I wish I'd read some of the reviews first, like I normaly do. Oh well...I too had to simmer the syrup for about 20 min. before it showed any signs of thickening. Any ideas as to how to thicken it without boiling it forever and being able to use it the same evening or is it a must to leave in fridge overnight? I'd appreciate any help as hubby's a huge chocolate user. (He's not huge, just his taste for chocolate sauce:)

Excellant! after reading the reviews I decided to reduce the water to 1 cup and also added a scant tablespoon of cornstartch. Mixed the dry ingredients together well then slowly added the water whisking till smooth then I heated it to a low boil, reduced the heat to a simmer and continued to cook it for about 5 minutes all the while stiring till the back of a spoon coated well. Cooled and when refridgerated it thickend to a perfect consistency. Remember this is syrup not fudge sauce. I added chocolate extract instead of vanilla and the flavor of this syrup is deep and rich with chocolate. So much better than commercial chocolate syrup which I will never buy again.

I just made this, and I didn't know making chocolate syrup at home was so easy. I only used one cup of water. I also used half a cup of special dark cocoa powder and half a cup of regular cocoa powder. I let this come to a rapid boil while continually whisking, and I let it boil for approxomately 5-7 minutes. When it was finished it was thin, but I let it cool to room temperature then I refrigerated it. It is the perfect consistency and smooth texture.

Excellent recipe! I'm not a fan of Hershey's chocolate syrup but this was like a thin fudge topping. I used milk instead of water and it turned out delicious!

This tastes like liquid brownies. It's so good on vanilla ice cream. I will never buy chocolate syrup again.

A little thin, but served its purpose. Was pleased to find a recipe using what I had on hand.

This turned out a bit too thick for me, maybe I cooked it too long? I added a bit of milk to thin it out so that was fine, but it was grainy in texture, I'm a bit disappointed!

Loved this recipe! I did not pay attention to the cooking time - knowing how pudding and fudge thickens I brought it slowly to a rolling boil, and when it thickened, I decided I was done - it doesn't take long though
