This was absolutely delicious. I made it yesterday and it is gone. So moist and chocolatey, it definitely does not need frosting. I will be putting this into regular rotation!!

This is an outstanding quick cake! I made it to take to friends when we had a last minute dinner invite. To say that it was a hit is an understatement! The raves and oooooh's were endless. And it's soooo easy! I added a few chocolate chips to the batter and served it with a dollop of whip cream on top. Simple and delicious!

I turned this into "Chocolate Breakfast Cake" with these modifications: I melted butter into 1 c milk on the stovetop. We have an egg allergy so I subbed for 1 egg with Ener-G Egg Replacer (a powder mixed w/water), 1 Tablespoon pure vanilla, 1 cup fresh ground hard white wheat flour (I have a mill), 1/2 c Coconut Crystals (low glycemic coconut sugar- I like Coconut Secret brand), raw cacao powder, 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder, 3 dropper fulls of liquid stevia. By using whole grain and low/no glycemic sweeteners it became healthy enough for breakfast...way better than pop tarts/donuts/sugar cereal, and no sugar sprinkles/frosting needed. It was done in 20 minutes, nice loft, nice crumb and all mixed by hand in one bowl. Success!

This was good, I read some reviews about it not being good or tasting like egg ~ you do need to add the egg a little at a time ( in my opinion ) so they do not scramble, because you are taking the hot water and butter and adding egg :) I sprinkled powdered sugar over it, and it was a good "snacking" cake. I would not make it for a birthday party, but for after dinner spur of the moment, it was nice :)

I tried this recipe out on a whim and am very happy with it. Takes very little time to put together and is EVER so good while it's warm!

I made this cake as a quick dessert. It was good, but needed the extra sweetness of frosting. Also, the boiling water cooked part of my egg and made little pieces of egg in my cake. I would suggest after melting your butter in the water, letting the mixture cool. It was a good cake and my family liked it, however, it could have been better.
