Chocolate One Minute Icing

"This may be the icing that you are looking for. It is very chocolaty and has a soft set to it. Try using a butter-flavored shortening. It makes the recipe double rich. My mother always used it on Devil's Food cake."

Original Recipe Yield 3 cups
 

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup canned evaporated milk
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Place the sugar, evaporated milk, cocoa, and shortening into a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Once the mixture is boiling, continue cooking and stirring for 1 minute.
  2. Remove from heat, and add butter and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer until thick, and use immediately.
