This cake is awesome! I get rave reviews every time I make it. I bake the cake at 325 for 25 minutes and it comes out super moist. The frosting is so light, yet so rich. This cake is one of my favorites!

I should have used a better cake mix. I thought the mousse part was great. It wasn't too heavy where it broke the cake like mentioned in previous reviews. This is VERY rich and it takes a lot for me to say that because I have the biggest sweet tooth of all! I will surely make the mousse part again, but maybe put it on an angel food cake or something, but next time the cake will be made from scratch. I followed the recipe as it is written. Just be sure to grease your cake pans up so the cake doesn't stick!!

Really easy to make! The mousse takes a bit to make but it sure is heavenly! If you're uncomfortable making cake from scratch, but feel like baking gourmet, try this! It's a must-make and must-EAT!

Wouldn't change a thing about it! I used a milk chocolate box cake. The mousse frosting was wonderful.

Good cake, but the mousse was very heavy for the cake itself and made my cake split right down the middle of it from the weight of the mousse. It ended up spliting in three sections. My advice is to not reduce the water, but keep it as is in the recipe as mine came out too heavy and thick. I made this for a co-worker's birthday cake and felt bad that I had to bring a split up broken down cake. Everybody said it was delicious anyways. I'd make it again, but use a little more water.

YUM. YUM. AND MORE YUM. This was so easy, and for me, that's tops. The mousse was so good and so easy I will use this for plain old chocolate mousse served in cups as well. I used only 1/4 cup water. Also, you have to get this into the fridge FAST to keep layers from sliding and obviously keep it in the fridge. But it worked just fine for me. Everyone loved this, and I'll make it again and again. Looked just like the picture!

I was not fond of this cake - I made it according to the directions, and the frosting tasted, well. . . like pudding. It was disappointing for me - not what I expected.

Eh. This was ok. Not terrible, but I wasn't thrilled that this was what I brought with me to a dinner. The mousse ended up being thicker than I thought it should be, if I made it again I would add a bit more water. If you beat the cream until stiff peaks form, there is no need to cut down on the water. I didn't love the flavor of the mousse I got so I'm not sure I will attempt this again. I do have to say that it was better the second day having been in the fridge for more than 24 hours. I ate a piece with some mint ice cream, and it was even better.

Cut down to half of the water, and added 1/4 teaspoon of Cream of Tartar to the whipping cream, like others suggested. I used a box cake and it was DELICIOUS! OMG this is my new favorite. It was devoured by everyone...Not a crumb left. Like the saying goes...Try it, you'll like it!

Just made this cake..The mousse was pretty good, but like others have said, a cake from a box isn't very good. Will use the mousse for something else, was looking for a restaurant quality cake, will keep looking.

this recipe was a waste of my time. the frosting was excellent tasting, but was so runny that i could barely keep it on the cake. i would definitely make the frosting again to use as a dip for fruits or so. all in all, i would rather just buy already made frosting and save me all that trouble.

This has become one of my signature cakes. Made it for an MDA Bake Sale Fundraiser at work and it sold for $490.00 Breaking all records. The person who won told me it was worth every bite of it. The only problem is that when they ask for the recipe is embarrasing to tell them how simple it is to make. I love this cake. Thanks so much for sharing!

I was looking for an eggless mousse to serve at a church luncheon and found this one. It was perfect! I made edible dark chocolate cups and used a piping bag to fill them with the mousse. I followed the suggestion of whipping the cream very cold and very stiff and I didn't have a bit of trouble with runny mousse. It was perfect....did I already say that? I will definitely be making this again--perhaps with the cake this time!
