I made these for Christmas this year and they are Awesome! They will definitely be in my keeper box for future Christmas cookies. I found the recipe in a Taste of home recipe book. I made the recipe just like it had been written, almonds were optional. I chose to leave them out, the cookie is so moist and chewy. It did make about 8 dozen cookies .

I totally disagree with the last review! I think she must have done something wrong in her baking. I have made these cookies many times, and they are amazing! Incredibly moist and fudgey. I like to make them for cookie platters and cookie exchanges, and others always say they love them too!

Just looking at all the wonderful ingredients in this cookie - oatmeal, cocoa, almonds, cherries, almonds - led me to think I had come across a real treasure. I was so excited to try these, and I had an expectation in my mind of what the cookies would look and taste like. I was anticipating, as this recipe's first reviewer, happily sharing my find. Not. These were not fudgey as described and, in fact, were even on the dry side. I was expecting gooey, fudgey, and intensely chocolate, but they were just....boring. Perhaps the oatmeal is the culprit. Too much flour maybe? Or maybe the submitter suggested too long a baking time. Whatever the case, I'm not willing to tinker with this passable but mediocre recipe and, frankly, I wish I could have my chocolate, almonds and cherries back as they didn't prove to be the significant contributions I expected them to be. Note: If you still decide to try these, be forewarned that even half the recipe as I made makes a lot of cookies. Unfortunately, that's a lot of cookies I wasn't terribly impressed with.
