This frosting was to die for! I made it for our pastors 50th and had a cupcake tower. Everyone stills talks about how it was thier favorite cupcake. I didn't change anything!

I love love love this recipe - the best chocolate frosting I've ever made and my men love it! The hot fudge topping is the 'over the top' ingredient here. Be sure to use hot fudge and not just chocolate syrup, which would make the frosting way too thin.

Fabulous tasting, great texture and easy to make. I made a couple alterations after reading previous reviews - used all butter (no shortening) and heavy cream instead of the milk. The frosting looked identical to the picture!

i used this frosting to cover the chocolate applesauce cake recipe from this site. i made 2 9" cakes and spread a cool whip cream cheese frosting between them. i then topped the cake with this fudge buttercream. I thought it was too thin personally, and prefer a different texture in my frostings. i think this could be remedied if you add the fudge topping first, and then the milk, only adding as much milk as you want to thin it out. however this had vey nice flavor that wasn't overly sweet as so many frostings are. thanks!

This is the most incredible chocolate frosting. My only tip is don't over-beat it or it will be runny. I use this whenever I need a chocolate frosting. I always save the leftover frosting - it's great warmed up and poured over ice cream...

I used only butter because I did not have shortening, but this was awesome! The hot fudge topping really makes this delicious and creamy.

Awesome. I used heavy cream as others had suggested and smuckers hot fudge topping and it was the best frosting I've ever tried. I will NEVER buy store chocolate frosting again. Color was beautiful and it spread like a dream. I served this with the fabulous fudge chocolate cake (from this site) at my step fathers 50th birthday and already had my brother in law requesting it for his birthday. I filled the cake with chocolate ganache and sliced strawberries. Everyone loved it.

This frosting tastes like a candy bar!!! I couldn't scrape the bowl clean enough! lol I'll definitely be making this again and again and again!!! In my opinion it does not make a standard batch---this recipe actually yields half a batch, so if you plan to completely frost a 2 layer cake, double the recipe.

Thank you! Awesome recipe. I substituted the shortening with cream cheese and used dark hot fudge and it was the smoothest, creamiest, fudgiest frosting. Not that sugary sickly sweet stuff you get from a bakery or at the store. Delicious!
