unsweetened cocoa powder
This recipe is a family favorite for three generations. However, we like it better with butter instead of shortening. Serve this warm from the oven with vanilla ice cream, and it is very similar to a gooey brownie sundae. I've never seen it result in dumplings, precisely. It usually looks more like a cake with wonderful chocolate syrup underneath that you can drizzle over the ice cream. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it.
it's quite simple, and very very sweet; in my opinion, not precisely a beauty: it came out as a cake, more or less, and only some indentations could remind you of dumplings...but my 6 year old and my hubby proclaimed it a hit, so.
it was easy to mix but i put it in the oven and it just went horribly wrong. it tasted soggy and gross. i dont know if i did it wrong but i will never try to make it again
