Great recipe! I used half semi-sweet and half milk chocolate chips. I microwaved the chocolate in a glass bowl for 2 1/2 minutes on 70% power, as recommended by another user, and it worked perfectly! Will be making these again for sure!

Easy...with endless variations! Tip: Use the end of a long-handled, fireplace matchstick to dip the berries in chocolate! It's sturdier and keeps your hands out of the chocolate. It's better than a fondue skewer because berries don't slip.

Awesome!!! My family didn't realize I made them, and thought I spent a boat-load of money purchasing at a local bakery. Everyone was more than satisfied.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned but instead of using that method to melt the chocolate chips I put them in a microwavable dish and heated them up on the defrost setting at 10 second intervals. After every ten seconds I would take the bowl out and stir it. I would say it took about 4-6 ten second intervals to completely melt the chocolate. I would say it still tastes delicious using this method. Also I just placed the strawberries on a greased baking sheet to dry.

So simple and so elegant looking. I tried drizzling white chocolate over but I'm lousy at that, oh well, it doesn't affect the taste.

using plain milk chocolate was too sweet for an elegant dinner. instead, i used part semisweet part bittersweet chocolate and then drizzled some white choc.

This recipe is amazing and these strawberries were the hit of my mom's 80th birthday party. Be sure that your strawberries are really sweet - tasteless, pithy ones will just taste like chocolate. But ripe, sweet strawberries coupled with chocolate are an unbeatable combination. My sister and I made nearly 100 of these in less than 30 minutes. A few tricks that we found helpful: (1) have a large piece of styrofoam ready, and just dip the strawberry and put the end of the toothpick into the styrofoam. This allows the chocolate to set quickly and to look perfect. (2) Use medium-sized strawberries. Large ones are just too unruly to dip and eat. It's nice to be able to eat the strawberry and chocolate in just one or two bites. (3) We used Nestle semi-sweet chocolate chips because it's what we had on hand. But it was a nice balance with the sweetness of the berry. Milk chocolate may have been too sweet. (4) We just melted the chocolate in the microwave and then set the bowl in a larger bowl of very hot water. Then we just kept adding more hot water from the kettle every few minutes to keep the chocolate perfect for dipping. This was our first time to try this recipe (and my sister doesn't cook at all) and it turned out amazingly!!!

I LOVE these, they are so simple to make! a lot of people make this recipe even harder than it should be!... I buy chocolate chips in the bunk section at the store, all i do is put a ton of chocolate chips in a microwaveable tuperware container, i put it in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time, depending on how many chocolate chips you use depends on how long it takes, but usually I microwave until the middle gets soft and i stir them all together. when the middle is soft you should be good to go... just mix the chocolate chips all together and you don't have to worry about over heating your chocolate, the melted chocolate chips are warm and melt the other chocolate chips that have not melted yet, just let it sit for a few minutes, dip your strawberrys and place on wax paper (I also like to dip fresh bananas, pretzels, nuts, ext.)

I made these for my husband, mother and sister for Valentines day. I used Nestles milk chocolate chips instead of the semi-chocolate. Every raved about them. They were and still are begging for more.

I used oil instead of shortening because that's what I had. I also used someone's idea about the collander. It was perfect to hold the berries for drying. They were a hit!

I made these for Valentine's Day and they turned out really well for me. I used semi sweet chocolate chips, which created the perfect contrast with the sweetness of the berries. There is no need to use toothpicks or skewers, just hold on to the stems and leaves. I will be making these again!
