These were awesome, my best advice is to have everything ready, strawberries clean and dry, styrofoam ready, then get chocolate melted and work quickly. The reason is because it was kind of hard to keep the chocolate at the right temp. Also I used someone's idea to melt a little white chocolate in a zip bag with a little shortening and cut the corner off to drizzle over and it worked perfectly!

i love making these. i don't use this recipes though. I have found it easier to just use chocolate chips microwaved for about a minute. at 30 seconds i stir it to make sure that the chocolate isn't overheated. if the chocolate gets dry, then you can add a bit of veggie oil to make it liquid again. i also just lay them on a piece of wax paper to dry, and then drizzle with some melted white chocolate.

For years I used brown chocolate, but now I use white chocolate. Oh my goodness, if you haven't tried white then do so. It's nice to offer both, very impressive.

These came out great! I do not have a double boiler so I used the microwave and it was perfect. Make sure you wash and dry off the berries very well before coating them in the chocolate. I melted the 2 tbsp of butter (as suggested by others) in a bowl in the microwave then I mixed in the bowl 1 whole bag of ghirardelli 60%cocoa chocolate. I put it in the microwave for 1.5 mins t 50% power, stirred and kept microwaving in 15 second intervals and stirring until it all melted. I just laid them on wax paper to harden. After an hour in the fridge they were perfect and ready to serve. Everyone commented on how professional they looked. HIGHLY recommend this for a crowd. 1 bag of chocolate easily coated 2 lbs of strawberries. I ended up coating pretzel rods with the leftover chocolate and still had chocolate to spare.

Really great, super-easy! You don't need the shortening for flavor, but it keeps the chocolate from clumping up. I used really big, fresh strawberries. I rinsed the berries, then dried them carefully and stuck toothpicks down the middle. I threw the shortening in to a pot on the stovetop and heated it up for about 10 seconds, then added the milk chocolate chips and stirred continuously for 2-3 minutes until it was all smooth. Dipped the strawberries and laid them out on a cookie sheet covered with wax paper, which worked great; if I'd wanted them to look super-pretty, of course, I would've stuck them in the suggested styrafoam. Totally awesome idea; will use again and again and again!

These are sooooo good and the recipe is easy. I made these for our Mother's Day Tea for church yesterday and they got rave reviews. I used a double boiler but only used 1/2 Tbsp shortening. I took the advice of some of the readers here and also dressed them up by drizzling melted white chocolate on each - a much fancier look, perfect for the tea. Another tip - after dipping in the milk chocolate, you can dip the tip of each strawberry in finely chopped pecans or walnuts for those who love nuts. Also make sure you allow the strawberries to thoroughly dry after washing them and don't allow water to get into the melted chocolate. I made some more to give to my mother in law for Mother's Day - she is going to love these. If you have any melted chocolate left over, instead of throwing it away, you can make little candies by placing a little in small paper liners and allow to harden. Top with the white chocolate and sprinkle with nuts if used.

Great recipe, very easy. The berries looked great and the price of a dozen berries was well under $4.00. I added a bit of oil to the chocolate, but there was no "shine" on the hardened chocolate...no big deal really, but how do I get a shine?

Gets the job done, but the vegetable oil separates after a while and oozes out of the strawberry. Also, not the best flavor/texture.

I just want to say something about melting chocolate. I have used a double boiler to melt chocolate for years with no trouble at all. Just have a time amount of water in the bottom pan and keep it on low/medium heat and the chocolate will melt just fine. What seizes up chocolate is when water mixes with the chocolate so just be extra careful to avoid this.

Tried both double boiler and microwave...stick to the microwave. AWESOME. I have made them 4 times in 2 weeks. (I am now known for them!) Easy and beautiful. I didn't have any styrafoam so I just laid them on wax paper. No one cares about the "flat" part of the strawberry after it dries...it still tastes like chocolate.

Great, fast, easy and simple recipe. For more style, you can double dip (first time in white chocolate on one side, then cool, then dip in regular chocolate on both sides, with the white chocolate side slanted to form a "V" then chill) for a tuxedo effect. Very cute!

Yummy! We only needed a few strawberry's to go with our dessert, so I just used a little semi-sweet choc & butter in micro on 1/2 power about 15 sec at a time and stir. Was perfect.Definantly bring to room temp befor eating.

Perfect every time. Like others I used the microwave to melt the chocolate. I use long skewers and then once I dip the strawberries I stick the other end in a upside down strainer and let them dry. Works great...no messy chocolate to clean up and they look beautiful and professional.
