Big hit at my sister's baby shower. I mixed a bag of milk chocolate and semi-sweet. Messy, but worth it!

I can't believe how easy these were to make! I have use both semi-sweet and milk chocolate chip and I prefer the semi-sweet. I think it has a nice look and taste to it. I make these for all my parties and they're always gone within 5 minutes!!

Great recipe. The same concept can be applied to green apples to make chocolate covered apples.

These are so good! I make them at least once after we go strawberry picking. I have found that they taste better when dipped in a sweeter chocolate; if the chocolate is to bitter, it overpowers the sweetness of the strawberry. I also like to drizzle them with white chocolate; they look so pretty!

This was good.. but it's far easier to by the big bars of chocolate almond bark and melt for 1 1/2 minutes and dip. I can usually find the big bags of almond bark for about $3 at the local grocery store.

Made these for fathers day with big giant lucious strawberries just picked. Washed and dried them and used milk choc chips and two tablespoons of shortening. Put them in the microwave for one minute. Took it out and whisked it and it was ready!!! they came out wonderful. used some Wilton White chips and melted them and made stripes with a toothpick. TIP: when melting chocolate it can never ever come in contact with water. make sure your bowl is dry, your whisk is dry and if you sample a lick, USE A New spoon!!! It will turn it rock hard and you cannot recover. Did over 30 HUGE ones and still had some left for banannas and grapes. EXCELLENT recipe. I have also used this to coat half a butter cookie and add sprinkles to the wet choc.

I made these for a banquet that had about 100 people attending. They were the very first thing to disappear from the dessert table. I made two different varieties. In one I used semi-sweet morsels. In the other, I used semi-sweet chocolate morsels swirled with white chocolate. They both turned out great!

This was an easy recipe- however I made a few mistakes that I'll share- hoping to help save others...(I used the recipe before with no problems - so it does work well - usually! I'm positive my problems weren't due to the recipe.) 1st of all- make sure your bowl isn't glass (I thought mine was tempered...a cracked bowl later- I realized it wasn't.) That should have tipped me off for problem #2 - if the water is too hot- your chocolate won't melt! it becomes a solid slab in the bowl! What I think saved it was that I had added the 2 tbsp of butter, so as I let it just sit there & cool- it actually softened and melted. (I of course started a 2nd batch thinking I completely ruined the 1st batch, and although I thought I was being more careful-it too was overheated). Maybe the biggest tip would be to not start the project when you are on a tight deadline-like when you come home at 3:30 and your teenage son says he needs to bring something to the potluck dinner meeting that night & needs it by 5:30 - & he decided he was trying for a prize by bringing chocolate covered strawberries...we were probably trying to rush things along- pretending to be patient...schedule in plenty of time. So- while the 1st batch cooled, we were dipping pretzels in the chocolate, then as it continued to soften, I was able to cover the strawberries too! So, after a QUICK chill in the fridge, he was off to his meeting! (with bonus chocolate covered pretzels- some rolled in coconut!)

These were very easy. I followed the recipe exactly except that I used semi-sweet choc. I had large strawberries tooth picks would not hold them ,I used small kabob skewers...they worked. Thanks for the recipe.

Sooo AWESOME and SUPER easy!! I melted my chocolate chips at half power , stopping and stirring about 1 1/2 min. until all chips are melted. then stirred in the shortening. I used the store brand and the turned out awesome!! White chocolate burns really easy, I would use half power and stir every 45 seconds until melted and add shortening.

This was an extraordinarily easy to follow recipe and turned out to be spectacular! I didn't use exactly 16oz. of milk chocolate chips... Instead I used an 11.5 bag of milk chocolate chips and a dash from another bag with the 2tbs of shortening and it turned out very well. I put the shortening in fist, let it melt, then the chips. The strawberries turned out perfect! They look and tasted fantastic! Thanks!

I can not seem to figure out what I do wrong but my chocolate is always too thick & unmanagable. I have it on low heat, but this still happens. Ugh....

Thank you Kitten for the wonderful , cost-saving recipe. I love the idea of using an egg carton and toothpicks to dry the strawberries. It was yummmy!

Be sure to read a few reviews for tips. I melted the mixture in the microwave in a glass measuring cup and kept it warm in another bowl of hot water while I worked. I think this kept it from cooling to quickly. This may help others. They turned out super for me!
