Even though covering the cherries with the cookie dough is rather time consuming; it is entirely worth the effort. The cookie dough is very chocolaty, and complemented the cherry center surprisingly well. The frosting is incredible in it's blending of chocolate , and cherry flavoring. The thing I like most about this cookie is that there are no overpowering tastes in it; the chocolate taste does not overpower cherry, nor does the cherry taste overpower the chocolate . Overall, a very enjoyable cookie, which I cannot wait to make again.

This is my favorite Christmas cookie that I make every year. I always freeze my cookies and I found out that this cookie is the best when cold! It tastes like candy.

I have several chocolate cherry lovers in my family and they loved these cookies. Great recipe and very simple. I even liked them which surprised me. They are like a very moist brownie cookie with a yummy cherry surprise in the middle. The chocolate topping was to die for, very rich. I made these for my hubby for Valentine's day. Sprinkled a little red edible glitter on the tops, so cute.

These cookies were just the thing for a chocolate fix. The dough was great even raw! I had one that was completely dipped in chocolate and it was too sweet for me. I dipped 1/2 all the way (tops and bottoms) and 1/2 I dipped only over the tops. The cherry bits on top (from another review) were very pretty. Not that hard or time consuming. Loved them!

These cookies are so good, especially if you're in a chocolate feeding frenzy! When I saw that the recipe only made 15 cookies I decided to double it. Uh oh, it actually made 63 when doubled. Here's a few things that I did that might help others. When it said to take a tablespoon of the dough, I measured it and then weighed it on my diet scale and it came to 20 grams. I then measured all the dough out so they would all be relatively the same size. This worked out much faster and they all baked the same. Also, instead of the cherry juice in the frosting, I put a teaspoon of almond extract (2tsp for double recipe) to give it more of a cherry flavor. With the cherries that were left over I cut them in half and placed a half on top of each completed cookie to give it some color (see photo). Although these cookies are a bit labor intensive, they are well worth the time.

This is now a staple recipe of mine-- and a Valentine's day tradition. I made them for a bake sale and my grandmother bought ALL of them because she loves them so much. They are so easy and the flavors blend so well. About to make a batch right now...

I CAN'T BELIEVE I FOUND THIS RECIPE. Thank you so much. My mom used to make these cookies for christmas every year. They were fun I would help 'thumbprint' the cookies so she could finish them. Thank you for posting they were known as berry cherry cookies to use but i am so glad to have found this recipe.

These were delish! I made them at Christmas and doubled the cookie dough. I made 44 and had dough left over which I froze. Didn't change anything except I didn't pat the cherries dry as someone else had mentioned. Put them from the jar into the cookie dough. I think this kept them more moist. Yummy - a keeper!

Chocolate cookie is moist, but could be a bit more flavourful (maybe by adding some extract, maybe almond?). Cherry is nice surprise in the middle. They went over very well for Christmas.

I've never had this type of cookie before, but these were really good. I took other advice and frosted before baking. In the future, I might do what someone else mentioned and use white chocolate chips for the frosting. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve made three batches of these cookies now and they are wonderful. I made them for a cookie swap and as Christmas gifts. My eight year old daughter even helps me with these cookies (she loves them).

I've done this recipe now twice and they are fabulous! This year, instead of wrapping the dough around the cherry, I drained the cherries and pulsed them in the food processor for about 15 seconds, and then blended it in with the dough. They are really pretty and taste great!

I'm not a big fan of chocolate-covered cherries but I made these for my Grandma for Christmas. I chilled the fondant for about an hour before wrapping the cherries, and then chilled another 3 hours or so. I didn't have the chocolate melts so I used semi-sweet chocolate with a bit of shortening mixed in. I then sprinkled them with walnuts.
