I altered it, but we like it. The krispies make it crunchy while the oatmeal provides a chewy texture. I omit the nuts, use 1/2 crisco/ 1/2 margarine, doubled the vanilla, use m&m's instead of choc chips, up the krispies, up the sprinkles.

Very yummy and truly fun for kids! I did a half-batch (changed the servings to 23 from 45) and didn't put in nuts. I added an extra bit of oats and krispy cereal to take their place. I also subbed 3/4 cup of whole wheat flour for the same amount of the all-purpose but did the rest all-purpose. They taste good and look good. I kind of think they need even more chocolate chips--maybe some white chocolate chips thrown in there would be good. They are really very good, though, and I do want to try putting together the jar as a gift as the other reviewer said. Thanks for the fun recipe!

what a fun recipe! i made half a batch this afternoon, and the rice cereal/sprinkles add the perfect level of crunchiness...what's more, the presentation in the jar is so much more interesting than the other jar cookie mixes i've seen (i made the cookies straight from the recipe this time, but i'll likely give these as gifts in jars next holiday season). i used margarine instead of butter as a matter of preference, but i didn't mess with the other ingredients/quantities at all! thanks!!
