Jaqueline McTee
"My husband loves banana cream pie, and I like chocolate, so I combined the two. It's our favorite dessert, which means I get a lot of practice making it!"

DIRECTIONS
In a saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt. Gradually add milk and cream until smooth. Cook and stir over medium-high heat until thickened and bubbly, about 2 minutes. Add a small amount to egg yolks; mix well. Return all to the pan. Bring to a gentle boil; cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from the heat; stir in butter and vanilla. Pour half into the pastry shell; cover and refrigerate. Add chocolate to remaining custard; mix well. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour. Do no stir. Arrange bananas over filling. Carefully spoon chocolate custard over all. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings if desired.

at the beginning, never stop stirring, and you may want to add the corn starch to a small bit of milk before mixing with everything else, to avoid lumps. Delicious pie.

Fantastic! I couldn't put my fork down. Be sure to keep stirring in the saucepan to keep everything from becoming lumpy. I didn't have to melt the chocolate chips either, the mixture was warm enough from being cooked I just tossed the chips in.

Yum! Came out great. I didn't try to make this healthier on purpose, but I didn't have any heavy cream and ended up using half 2% and half skim milk. It turned out great! Also, I am impatient and didn't refrigerate the chocolate separate from the vanilla for an hour, and I didn't have a problem.

YUMMY!! I made this with the French Pastry Pie Crust from this site. The chocolate, banana & vanilla combo is excellent. I mixed some whip cream with the chocolate before spreading it over the bananas because we prefer creamier chocolate & kept everything else the same. Make sure to really chill the pie before cutting it, though. My husband couldn't wait so we cut the pie too soon and it made a mess, but a very tasty mess. Thanks for the recipe!!

This was a very easy pie to make and it's a great dessert option that doesn't utilize the oven. I made it with soy milk and heavy cream. The chocolate layer was much creamier than the bottom custard layer but I think that's because I used a whisk to mix the chocolate in and stirred the original mixture in the saucepan with a spatula. The whisking made a big difference. I had a 5 year old and an 8 year old helper and there were many steps that they could easily do. We topped it off with homemade whipped cream, more bananna slices and chcolate shavings. A hit with the whole family!

This was the first time I had ever made a homemade pie. My 7 yr old son and I made it together. It was absolutely delicious (and easy).

I brought this pie to a dinner and it was very popular. It was a little too sweet for me, but it's great for a cake-y, decadent dessert.

My pie turned out ok, kind of gluey. I think I cooked the custard a little too long or used too much cornstarch. My graham cracker crust went well with the custard but I would have liked more banana flavor. It was good with walnuts sprinkled on top but I probably won't make this again. It didn't really blow me away.
