DIRECTIONS
Butter a 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pan. Layer eight sheets of phyllo dough in pan, brushing each with butter. In a bowl, combine nuts, chocolate chips, sugar, cinnamon and lemon peel. Sprinkle 2 cups over top layer of phyllo.
Layer and brush four sheets of dough with butter. Top with 2 more cups nut mixture. Layer and brush four more sheets of dough with butter; top with remaining nut mixture. Top with the remaining dough, brushing each sheet with butter. Drizzle any remaining butter over top.
Using a sharp knife, cut baklava into 1-1/2-in. diamonds. Bake at 325 degrees F for 50-60 minutes or until golden brown. Meanwhile, combine the syrup ingredients in a saucepan; bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes. Pour over warm baklava. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack.

This is a wonderful recipe. I substituted pecans for walnuts and it still tasted great. Thanks.

I love baklava and have always wanted to try and make it. The only problem is I can't eat many nuts so when I found this chocolate recipe I was excited. I mixed it up a little and only put nuts on half of the batch. I really enjoyed this recipe!! I will make it again for sure!!!

This tastes great and is very easy to make! I only made 2 layers of the mixture b/c I only ended up with 4 cups, not 6 as the recipe calls for, but it was still great!

Yum!! My mom said it was probably the best she'd ever had, and she LOVES baklava. Even I liked it, and I was wary because of the nuts (I used pecans instead of walnuts). A wonderful, satisfying treat that was surprisingly easy, considering.

I converted the recipe to 25 servings and I think something went wrong cause the recipe called for 2 cups of nut mixture in each layer and I only had about 2 1/2 cups total. I am definately going to try again with the full recipe! My relatives said it tasted very good though and want me to start bringing it to family get-togethers
