Chinese Pork Chops
SUBMITTED BY:
Rose Grace

"Brewed tea, soy sauce and salt-free seasoning blend lend an Oriental flavor to these tender boneless pork chops. The recipe, submitted by Rose Grace of Fall River, Massachusetts, makes plenty of gravy for drizzling over the tasty chops."

DIRECTIONS
Season both sides of pork chops with seasoning blend and pepper. In a large nonstick skillet, brown meat in margarine on each side over medium-high heat. Add the tea, celery, onion and soy sauce; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30-40 minutes or until meat and vegetables are tender.
Remove meat to serving dish. Strain cooking liquid, reserving vegetables. Place vegetables in a serving dish with meat. Combine cornstarch and water in a small saucepan until smooth. Stir in 1 cup cooking liquid. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Serve over pork chops.

What a wonderful and different recipe! I must admit I was a bit skeptical because of the tea but decided to try it because of all the good reviews. You can't even taste the tea in the sauce! I marinated the pork beforehand in the mixture of fresh garlic, black pepper, soya sauce and curry powder and set aside in the fridge for a ocuple of hours. Later on I sprinkled salt, pepper and garlic powder on each chop and browned it and then made the sauce. I added chinese chili sauce to the sauce and it turned out delicious!

Okay all I had in the house was the ingrediants to make this. I didn't have celery though yet added a little celery seed...It was really good. I was so surprised. Did not taste the tea at all. We loved the gravy and made white rice put the chop on top and smothered in gravy...I made more than one cup.... Thank you for this recipe. Very very easy.

These were the best cooked pork chops I have ever made. I didn't make the final sauce with the cornstarch, instead, I just used the juice, onions, and celery to top. Everyone loved them, including my husband who isn't a big fan of pork chops.

This recipe was outstanding, the mixture of the tea and soy sauce was so good. My wife and 7 year old son loved it. I used carrots instead of celery as we were out, and they were great. I will definitely cook this again, maybe for a big family dinner.

Going with the Chinese theme, I used strong pu-erh/pou-nei tea and substituted half of the celery with sliced snow peas. Served everything with white rice and garnished with cilantro (of which I'm a big fan). I think I'd add carrots to the mix of vegetables, to add some colour. Overall, very tasty.
