I decided to make this chili for the first time for my neighborhood chili cookoff and WON! We had 12 chilis in the contest including the chili from Wendys (to throw people off). Mine won and Wendy's was 2nd! This chili has just the right amount of sweet and spicy! EXCELLENT!

This was the best chili I have ever made! I cut the brown sugar down to 2 T and used whatever beer I had (which wasn't dark) and I couldn't believe the flavors! Gave the recipe to 2 friends of mine who also made it and said it was the best! The sauce is so dark and rich! Served it at a party with every fixing you could imagine and it was gone in a flash. You really need to try this.

This chili recipe is awesome. I did make a couple changes because I was worried that it would be too spicey for my 5 and 3 year old. I put in 2 T chili powder and 2 jalapenos, instead of the 3 1/2 T and 4 chili peppers. I think I could have put in the rest of the chili powder and it still would have been mild enough for my girls. Oh, I did add a green pepper since it was in my fridge too. It was delicious... even my 5 year old tore it up. We just added a little cheddar and couple crackers and oh my goodness... amazing. It's sweet, and then it kicks you in the butt... just a little. : ) MAKE IT!

I was really excited to make this chili with beer however the taste of the beer was still too strong no matter how long I cooked it. I added some gravy master and some more beef broth. It is still good but not perfect.

This chili is spectacular. I followed the recipe exactly except in a few instances. 1. I browned the ground beef and sirloin in a separate pan so I could drain the grease. 2. I halved the amount of brown sugar. 3. I used a can of peeled, diced tomatoes with jalapenos and Anaheim chiles instead of hot peppers. Chickening out on the peppers is my only regret. My chili didn't have the heat I wanted. Next time I'll use hot peppers. Otherwise, it was fantastic!

Loved this recipe. Will make from now on as it got great reviews from the family. Changed a couple things to match what I had on hand. Used 2 lbs ground beef, black beans, added one can of corn, drained, and used ground cumin instead of seeds. Everything else was followed. Don't let the "soupiness" in the beginning upset you. Give it plenty of time to cook down on low heat. S00000 good.

This is by far the best chili I've ever had. I've made this recipe at least a dozen times over the past 2 years and received nothing short of rave reviews. I think it is fabulous as written although often make a few adjustments depending on availability of ingredients. It is a very "forgiving" chili this way and always turns out delicious despite my alterations and "eye ball" measurements. I usually use 1 3/4 lbs lean ground sirloin rather than the sirloin/ground beef mix, omit the veg oil, substitute 1/2T cumin powder for the 1T cumin seeds, omit the salt, and substitute 1-2 fresh jalepenos for the hot chile peppers. Sometimes I use less sugar, but not always--depending on how I'm feeling. And sometimes I use 1/2 kidney beans and 1/2 pinto beans--all added at the same time for sake of simplicity. I use my husband's dark stout homebrew and coffee left over in the pot from morning. Bob you're a genious, thank you!

I love this recipe, though I have yet to make it with beer. Just have not gotten around to it yet. It is sweet and spicy, requested by family often, and fabulous as leftovers.

This is the tastiest chili I have ever had. I have been to several of those chili cook-offs and they all tasted very bland compared to this recipe. We have made it several times and my husband keeps asking for more.

Not that this needs another review, but it was delicious! The only change i made was instead of the cocoa and the sugar, I just grated and tossed in some semi-sweet chocolate i had in the fridge. Way to go!!!

This is the only chili I make..never any leftovers I have to hide a bowl if I want one the next day. I'v made a couple of changes tho. Instead of using ground beef and cubed serloin. I use 2Lbs of stew beef cut up into about 1 inch cubes. cook with onions and garlic just until browned. mix all the ingrediants as directed.I also add 1 tsp of cinnamon. verry tasty!!! I cook it on a crockpot about 6 hrs. for best results cook in a cast iron pot hanging from a tripod over an open fire.I serv the chili over fritos with sour cream and sharp chedder cheese on top. Just remember from there on out it will be your job to make the chili !!!!
