This was a wonderful chili. I followed the recipe except for substituting the chili peppers with a green pepper. My kids say it's too spicy so I will cut back the cayenne next time to see if they like that more. There are a few cornbread recipes on this site that compliments this nicely.

Do make this recipe as it is written and you'll see that is an excellant dish. I was concerned about the various ingredients and my husband didn't want me to use the coffee or cocoa, but I did and it was great! Every family member liked the flavors and consistency. I'll put in less sugar next time as it was just a bit sweet for my taste - but again, it is such a great recipe. Adventurous and yummy!

I made this recipe for a football game. The hostess also made a pot of chile. This recipe was gone while the other remained untouched. I knew I had a hit when the guys were scraping the last morsels with corn bread. Excellent. Follow the recipe and you won't be disappointed.

The worst chili recipe I have ever encountered. I don't understand, I could swear that I cooked it exactly as listed, but did half the brown sugar. I slow cooked for 10 hours, and it came out bitter tasting with the taste of coffee and beer very prevalent. I almost want to try again because with that many reviews, I MUST have messed up somewhere, however I don't want to waste my money on it. Sorry. :-(

My husband found this and so we tried it.. I have to say this is the best chili we have ever tasted. I used to think my mother's was the best but there is no comparison. The only change I made was 2 less cans of kidney beans and used 1/4 tsp of brown sugar...It is the best....

Excellent chili recipe. Best I've ever made by far and I was fairly impressed with my own recipe before making this. My husband RAVED and that is very unusual.

I have made this recipe twice for parties, once in Chicago and once in Texas. Chicagoans and Texans are both discerning chili eaters. Both groups loved this chili! It's a unique recipie without being too "unique" tasting.

This recipe is awesome! I used only 1/2 cup of the coffee and 1/4 cup of the brown sugar. It is great for a cold winters day!

A wonderful recipe for Chili, which tastes like Chili should. My recipe I've been using for years remindes me of spaghetti sauce with chili powder. The family loved this recipe and were shocked at some of the ingredients used. *Yummy*

This is the best chili I've ever made. My family loves the cubed sirloin pieces. I do omit the chili peppers to make it less spicy. I've made it with and without the beer- great either way. I also like ground cumin instead of the seeds. A little grated cheese on the top and a fresh bun - YUM!

I took the advice of others and cut the brown sugar back to 1/4 C. This chili has a very well-rounded flavour. I made this for dinner one night for friends. Everybody had seconds and by the end of the meal the crockpot was empty.

Unbelievable recipe...only changes were to double the meat and cut down on the beans (hubby's request) and didn't include the peppers (to be kid friendly).

YUM! I loved this chili! I did lower the brown sugar to just a tablespoon because my dad doesn't like sweet chili. I would have liked it sweet too though. I also used just hamburger meat because of preference. I tasted it while it was cooking and increased the chili powder to 5 T and the cumin to 2 T. I like it to have a little bite. But overall this was a great recipe, you can just tweak it slightly for your tastes. Thanks!

Outstanding! Boy, this chili definitely has a kick to it! I'm going to fix this quite often. Like some of the other ratings, I didn't add quite as much brown sugar...probably only 1/4 cup. I also didn't add the chili peppers. With as much cayenne pepper, I didn't think it needed those. I didn't have beef broth. I had vegetable broth instead and it still turned out great!

This is great chili! I don't add beer to it - but otherwise I make it pretty close to the recipe. I've won office chili cookoffs with this and everyone always says I make the best chili!
