These taste wonderful. I did have to adjust the recipe a little. I used 1/2 butter and 1/2 veg. shortening (reg. not butter flav.) and I added 1/4 cup of water. I mixed it with my kitchen-aid on high and the dough was fluffy and soft. These cookies have a wonderful light crumbly texture. I really like them and will definitely use them again. I made snowflake cut outs and used an icing that hardens with some sugar sprinkled. Very pretty and yummy!

What a variety of reviews! People seem to either love it or hate it, and I went on a mission to find out what was going so wrong for some people and so right for others. Too wet? Too dry? I think it’s the MIXING method that makes a difference. If you mix this like a group of kindergartners would – dump and mix by hand, it should turn out just fine. If you are using an electric stand mixer, you might have to make some changes to get it to work. My first shot at this recipe was using a KitchenAid stand mixer, and my results were less than ideal. The dough looked nice and rolled out pretty well, but it was impossible to get the cut shapes off of the floured surface without destroying them – even repeatedly flouring the surface and re-rolling wasn’t cutting it – they just stuck down and fell apart. In an attempt to salvage the batch, I put the whole ball back into the mixer and added another 1/4 Cup of flour. Perfect! It rolled out well and cut well on a floured surface, and the cookies turned out great. Second try was by hand to see if my theory about mixing held true, and it did. The original recipe worked just fine when mixed by hand with a good old-fashioned wooden spoon. I floured the table and rolling pin heavily and repeatedly while rolling and cutting. Stick with the simpler forms like Christmas trees and snowmen, not reindeer with skinny legs – the dough is a bit fragile. Cookies are soft and puffy, like the ones you get at the bakery with the super-sweet frosting on the

Delicious!! My 5 yr. old granddaughter and I made them for valentines day, everyone loved them. They were easy and very tasty. She's already saying we have to make them for Easter. We frosted them and put colored sugar on some.

We loved them. I made them with a 3yo, 4yo & 6yo & had no problem at all. I substituted microwave-softened unsalted margarine for the shortening. We also added some red food coloring to the mixture before adding the flour. The dough was like a slightly moist clay, that the kids worked with for a bit on a floured board before rolling it out. We found it worked better patting the dough with our hands to a thickness somewhere between 1/8 & 1/4 inch, rather than using our heavy rolling pin. Delicious! We're bookmarking this recipe!

Well, I was a little nervous about trying these cookies, since there were so many "less than great" reviews. But, I thought I'd give it a shot, and if all else failed, I would just eat the dough! :) I did add two eggs, instead of just one, and I added a pinch of salt, which I always add when baking anything. I ended up needing about 3 cups of flour, plus the flour needed to roll out the dough balls. My 6-year-old and I made these over the past 2 hours, and I have to say, "They are awesome!" My little one did most of the rolling and cutting, and I was in charge of the oven. We did not have any decorating sprinkles, but we sprinkled sugar on the cookies before baking. These are yummy and easy little cookies, and we'll for sure make these again. Thanks for the recipe!

This was awesome. My boys helped me make these. They were tickled because the couldn't mess it up. The dough was so easy to work with. The cookies were not to sweet, they were just right. I will definately make these over and over.

The end result cookie was somewhat tasty, but the dough was very crumply and cracked alot when rolled. I followed the recipe to the letter, but ended up adding more shortening to roll it out effectively. After the 3rd rollout, I gave up.

The recipe was fine despite two things. One, the recipe did not include water, so I added my own-about 1/2 a cup. Second, the recipe did not have enough sugar to be sweet. Besides for these two things, the dough was easy to work with and was easy to bake with children helping.

I made this recipe and followed all directions. It was horrible and the dough was impossible to work. I did like the almond flavoring. It was flaking and crumbled. I did bake about 6 and they didn't turn at all

I've tried this one twice and found the dough to be very, very dry and impossible to roll out. I added milk to make it stick together and then dusted with flour to help it roll. Unfortunately, they fell apart getting from the tray to the cookie sheet. I am certain I followed the recipe - I am curious what must have been different for those people that love this recipe!

The cookies were pretty good, once I was able to get the dough to stick together! At firts I was a bit discouraged but I added a little milk and an extra egg and after that it was great. I sent them to my sons preschool Halloween party and they loved them. I don't think they even touched any of the other cookies that were there!

My husband LOVED these! They weren't at all hard to make but I did notice I have to roll them thick or they burn quick.. I may try lowering the temp a lil next time, but I liked them.
